Happy Sunday Friends

I know I normally don't post on the weekend...but hey every once an a while I catch the bug! My boys are still sawin logs this morning due to our little time change. Although, I'm up and ready for the day. I just woke up this morning looked out the window the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the grass has dew covering just the tips...all signs of SPRING. And I'm all for spring-like weather & activities, so bring on the time-change! I'll spring forward any day!

Yesterday we went antiqueing while hubby was at the sale barn. And I couldn't find a single thing I really liked except this cutie....and yes I realize it's clearly not an antique at all, but rather someone else's "junk" that some old lady probably picked up at a garage sale somewhere. Anyways, it was $1.00. and I'm quite tickled with my new purchase.

It is a little bent on top...but I think i can fix it! When I got home I filled it with my latest obsession...cuties! Every time I buy a bag of cuties...I just can't stop eating them. They are sooo yumm-o! I just wish my little man wouldn't have thought they were "balls" at the grocery store check out line....he kept saying "ba-ba" when he was ~~helping me~~ throwing stuff out of the cart. I came home with three bruised apples, and some beat up clementines. Luckily that didn't stop me from eating either. or taking pictures of them in my new urn.

Gotta love boys, right moms? Every day is a new adventure! :)

Yes, I realize instead of taking pictures of my cuties in my new $1 urn I should be cleaning the crumbs off my counters and tackling the rag pile by our sink....

Anyways...this is all to say. go buy some cuties. and go antiquing...you just never know what you are going to find.

I'm feeling a little better today after kissing my little nugget and catching his crud this week. Hoping I'm over the "worst"...also I've gotten a little behind in my e*design work this week, but I should have my client's new board up and ready to share this upcoming week! So excited!

Happy Friday Friends!

Looking forward to a fun low-key weekend with my boys! Just prepare yourself...I have a lot of photos to share with you all today, it's been a busy week!

Monday & Tuesday were fairly nice here so my rover got a little swing time. I'm tellin' you, this kid loves his swing! I was so sad when we got home a couple weekends ago and realized the 60mph winds we were having busted up his super sturdy {hah!} fisher price swing (i left it in the front yard tree and the wind kept whipping it against the trunk...bad idea!) But thankfully I used my macgyver skills and took a little duck tape to it...and now I think it's good as new...or good until the next wind storm blows through! ;)

Then my sweet innocent swinging boy turned into this fussy clingy always wanting to be held child, yep he was sick! (don't worry I picked him up right after I snapped this picture....isn't this what every mother sees when she looks down at her feet?)

and shortly after (one day) he was sick....I got sick too! Boo...off to the drug store to pick up the necessities: herbal tea, de-congestant, and peanut butter m&ms. I shared my m&m's with my rover...he has a thing for sweets, no idea where he got that from? certainly wasn't from me! ;)

and since I've been feeling less than superb....I've used what little energy I have had to clean and organize this week. (a small glimpse of my sell/donate/get rid of before we move again piles...) although it doesn't look organized to you...I can assure you it is.

I also took a quick second to organize my fabric stash...I love organizing it by the colors of the rainbow. Fabric makes me happy.

I even got a little crazy and whipped up another jon jon for my boy. I sure hope he appreciates his mommy's handiwork some day! ;)

only this time..I got a little crazy and used kelly green buttons! I like green.

Also while cleaning I found this little lady...my childhood piggy bank! I could not believe it! She still holds my beloved susan b. anthony coins from the tooth fairy, maybe someday I can pass this on to someone who loves her as much as I did/do.

I also found a few of my childhood watches...yes. i have some hoarder tendencies. Thankfully because of those tendencies, I find jewels like these that bring back a mountain of memories. Neither work anymore, if I remember right the Minnie Mouse watch was worn while jumping into the neighbors swimming pool, thus the foggy face.

And I even found this newspaper clipping...my mom used to have this hanging on the side of our fridge (I think I was about 5 in this picture.) It's yellowed and torn and they totally messed up my name using my older sister's (notice the "Jennifer") which I was devastated about... but I still treasure my 5 minutes of childhood small town fame. ;)

Sometimes you see an interior designer's work and your jaw just drops....that is exactly what happened to me when I saw Carter Kay's work on Pinterest.

{what would we do without pinterest?!}

I have to say her interiors really intrigue me! I think a pretty, well designed room should make you study it, for hours which is exactly what I could do with her rooms. I feel like I should get out a pen and paper and start taking notes....

I love this kitchen...that oven hood makes the whole room!

This room a little too busy for my taste, but I can appreciate her combination of styles, colors, and patterns!

again, another well designed kitchen and notice the track lighting? In the kitchen? so unexpected, and surprisingly stylish!

a great example of how fabulous artwork can make a room!

I want to see more of those dark bookshelves....they look right up my alley!

so what do you think? I admire her work for her broad sense of style. I can appreciate a designers portfolio who can reach across various styles to create a look all their own.

{design trend: hermes avalon blanket}

I don't know if you have noticed but the Hermes Avalon Blankets seem to be the go-to styling item these days!? I can't believe how many interior designers and home stylists are using them for photo shoots. My best and most obvious guess is they want to put a touch of that high end, luxury feel into the rooms....after all everyone knows when they see that "H" they know it stands for Hermes. Kind of like driving a BMW or wearing a Louis Vuitton purse....its all about the name!

I'm all for high end luxury (even if it's totally out of reach for my mediocre budget) but these blankets come in at around $2575. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me...but hey to each their own! ;)

I gotta admit I do like the pop of orange that the avalon blanket provides in this room...

Totally diggin' the grey washed walls...grey + orange you can't go wrong! The warm and cool tones really play off each other nicely.

Lastly, if this room doesn't feel rich and luxurious than I don't know what does...those tufted leather sofas were just callin' for a Hermes blanket!

Happy Monday Friends!

This weekend was so beautiful here in Texas, it actually felt like spring outside...the grass is starting to come up along with the daffodils in the front yard, I even noticed some of the tree are getting their buds! So exciting, I love seeing green life after all the long dreary winter days!

So, in honor of all the new greens popping up, today I'm featuring one of my favorite spring time accessories....framed botanicals! Nothing says "spring" more than finding the beauty in the details of everyday mother nature. Changing out the artwork in your home seasonally can really make a huge impact, looking at the same thing day after day can get a little boring.

Pop in some framed printed botanicals from and old book, or press and dry your own (if you have that option where you are from), they will add an instant "hint" of spring to your home. Here are some of my favorite examples:

adding just a little touch of green to your home can make such a big difference.

Happy Friday Blog Friends!

As you well know, I started doing random blog posts on Friday's because usually my brain is fried by Friday and I think it'll be fun to look back on my very random life. Basically I show you what I've been up to, current projects, what my families been up to, good recipes, stuff I like, stuff I want, stuff I'm dreaming of....you get the picture, basically its just a lot of random STUFF! ;)

I started off the week by making this little seersucker Easter jon jon for my nugget.....I've been debating buying one from an online boutique for weeks, and I'm SO glad I choose not to! I think this whole piece cost about $15.00 (including the pattern) and everything I was looking at online was $40+. I actually got the whole number done in an afternoon, and even created my first ever button holes! I'm hooked, and now I'm envisioning my little man wearing these things all summer long. must. sew. more.

I'm such a sucker for a pretty slip covered chair...so you know I just HAD to pin this little beauty. I want a pair of these for my dining table someday!

and another pinterest beauty for your finger! You know how much I love me a pretty monogram, I really want that ring. so cute!

I found this on face book this week and just had to chuckle....I think I'm going to print this out for Mr. Cattlebuyer. He can talk cow talk all day long. It amazes me, his phone will ring at least 3-4 a week at 10 or 11 o'clock at night because some other buyer will want to talk cows with him! (I just say "talk cows" because I don't really know what exactly they are talking about, something about yields and percentages and such!)

and lastly, somebody is getting a new ride next week, thanks to grandpy & grandmy! I don't know who is more excited, me or him! ;)

should be big hit, and it should make our park visits that much more fun for my squirmy little man! :)

{steal the look: chandy love}

I've had this dining room saved on my hard drive forever....that turquoise beaded chandy totally sings in this dining room, don't you agree? I just can't get it out of my head!

I have to admit, Turquoise is definitely one of my favorite accent colors to use in my wardrobe and in my home. I think allowing everything else in this room below to be very neutral in color makes this chandy really pop and I love that it's a little unexpected, feels a little glamorous and bohemian in a room full of antique country charm. Such a great melding of styles.

{design trend: black doors}

As many of you know...I love keeping up with the current design trends.

Lately, (actually for the past few years...) designers have been sourcing/specking black doors! This is even something you can do all by yourself in your own home to change your ho-hum builder grade doors! I love how a black door can completely change the look and feel of a room.

Here are some of my favorites....

this foyer by Phoebe Howard is absolute perfection. That door is perfect and the floor tiles are exceptionally pretty. Love how the black grid tile work ties in with the doors, stair treads, and lighting.

This den space has been one of my favorites forever.

i'm pretty sure I've shown you pictures of this gorgeous kitchen by Tommy Smyth before. He did a great job incorporating black accents! Love the bottom cabs, doors, and flooring. Love that contrast of White walls + Black doors. Tommy can do no wrong!

And lastly this kitchen from joni at cote de texas! So great!

I hope this post inspires some of you to get out the paint brush and update your ho-hum builder grade (or maybe your old outdated) doors! I'm telling you, you cannot go wrong painting them a rich deep black! You won't believe how a simple black door can transform your home!

{design board: master bedroom retreat}

I absolutely loved working with my fabulous client on her master bedroom makeover! We used a soothing and calming neutral color palate, infusing pops of dark Black and Charcoal accents to ground the space. We mixed her casual country style and existing furniture with some traditional and unexpected pieces to create the perfect blend of styles and timeless patterns that are sure to please her and her husband for a long time! The key to using neutrals in any space is making sure to incorporate lots of textures and various shades of white or off-white, which is exactly what we did with this bedroom. Texture and color variation create interest and visual appeal in any space! I'm thrilled that my clients love their new space!

Huge thanks to my wonderful clients past and present! I seriously have to pinch myself every day that I get to do what I love and help inspire others! Thank you all so much!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Sooooo glad this week is coming to an end, and sooooo glad this month is coming to an end (in a little bit). I have decided February is one of my least favorite months! Not sure whether it's the cold windy weather (nearly lost my cart full of groceries + Cash in the wally parking lot this week...60mph winds!), the feeling that this month has the fewest days but seems to always last the LONGEST, the dead trees/grass/everything (!) here in West Texas, or if it's because of my Grandma's in the hospital, or because we lost my Grandpa last year at the exact same time (February 17th). Cash also had a birthday party to attend Tuesday afternoon, we went, all was good. But when I got home my right eyelid started swelling and it is just now starting to look more "normal"...but for a couple days it was totally not attractive! Not to mention, I always miss-spell February. silly letter -r. Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this?

Okay, that's enough negative. I usually try to keep this a positive, encouraging place, but I am definitely ready for this month to be over!

Thankfully Mr. Cattlebuyer is taking over mommy duty for me tomorrow and sending me to the salon. I'm so overdue for a haircut/color it's not even funny! Yep, they say when you become a mom you have less time for yourself, I'd have to agree 100%. The good thing is, is that my baby doesn't care if my ends are split and my roots are showing. Nope. He loves me all the same!

Love that unconditional kind of love. :)

We finally found a day that was nice enough to get to the park this week, and so I brought my camera along...I'm trying to learn how to shoot in Manual Mode! I've owned my camera for a year and half and up until recently I've always been scared to shoot manually. Not anymore! :)

Thanks again for your constant prayers for my Grandmother, she was squeezing my sister's hand this week, and could shake her head "yes" or "no" when asked questions, things like "are you cold?", "are you warm?" and she could respond by shaking her head... truly amazing!

So encouraging to know she is responsive and able to communicate a little bit. She's got a long road ahead of her, but I know with God's help anything is possible!

{design board: guest bathroom}

Just because bathrooms are small spaces doesn't mean they can't pack a big punch! This bathroom is centered around this beautiful nautical rope stenciled accent wall. We paired masculine textures (warm wood & "living" metals with patina) with feminine details (soft blue/grey paint & fluffy white monogrammed towels) to create the perfect combination for both male & female! This room is fairly neutral, with pops of rusty burnt orange! Especially loving the warm orange color against the cool blue grey...contrast is such a great design element!

I haven't done a designer love series for a while, so I thought I'd pick up where I left off last year!

Phoebe Howard has been one of my biggest inspirations...her style is so classic and the base of all the room's she designs is truly timeless. Sometimes the rooms lean more traditional, sometimes more coastal or sometimes more country, but no matter what direct they lean towards they always are picture perfect in my humble opinion.

Here's a collection of some of my favorites from her portfolio:

This bathroom feels like a spa....what I wouldn't do to have all that gorgeous marble in my home, and the exposed plumbing is too pretty to be real! Love the built-ins in the mirror reflection as well!

I could really go on and on about this bedroom below....the ceiling alone is breathtaking but combined with that fantastic spindle bed, chandy, and soft neutral color palate it's totally screaming my name! I don't even think I could sleep in this room I'd be gazing at that ceiling all night long.

again another soft neutral bedroom, especially swooning over the planked walls, and the bed skirt!

She even puts her touch in the stairwell, loving those gallery walls full of beautiful art!

and another planked wall filled with beauties...remember my post on antlers? These one's are totally stylish hung with the vintage plates...love that junxtapostion!

This all white kitchen totally speaks to me. Don't you want an exact replica for your own home? I'm loving how she choose only one (super neat, totally diggin' the patina!) light fixture for over the island!

Phoebe's talent truly shines through her interior design work. I can't wait to see what else this uber talented designer has in store for us!

Take this Barrister Bookcase by Live Beautifully Blog (Maria Beck Design), seriously this thing is gorgeous!!!

if this thing doesn't make you *swoon* than I don't know what will, and get this, she only paid $20 for it!!!

absolutely love how she accessorized it...clutter-chic. She has a lot stored in there, but all of it is displayed as if it's in a museum showcase....love that!

Definitely check out her blog, she is sooo talented. Her style reminds me of a mix between Erika Powell (Urban Grace Interiors) and Lauren Liess (Pure Style Home).

Hope you all have had an amazing day!

Just wanted to thank you all for the sweet emails and texts I received regarding my Grandma, it really means the world to know there are so many people who care about our family. I can't thank you enough...prayer is such a powerful thing.

Now I find it hard to transition into a wiww post (they seem so trivial and vein and to be honest I really don't like seeing myself every week) But I do love the connections I've made with other bloggers and the inspiration I find by visiting other wiww blogs by linking up! I recently decided I'm going to start posting wiww posts on Tuesday nights instead of Wednesday morning. Makes it much easier for me to link up on Wednesdays!

Now on to my outfit this week, I first have to say, this was a such a comfy outfit! I've also learned to LOVE wearing leggings after I bought these hue leggings (double knit). They are so much warmer than any other leggings I've ever worn and they are sooooo comfortable and soft, seriously they feel like butta!

I also realize that these ballet flats totally make me look like a shorty but lets be honest besides my nike's, ballet flats are the second most practical shoe to wear when running errands (even if they do nothing for my height!). And I found these TOMS leopard print look-a-likes (sort of...it's a stretch) at H&M while in Dallas for like $13 and they are surprisingly comfortable (hate breaking in new shoes, haven't had a problem with these!) I'm also learning to mix patterns with my outfits, something I've never done before!

Finding it hard to find much inspiration today....this weekend has been a emotional roller coaster ride.

It all started a week ago, my sweet grandma went in for a fairly routine surgery, expected to be in the hospital 1 week and be back home (tomorrow). Her surgery went well, and she was seemingly on the road to recovery, she was even up walking around (with help) last Friday. But that night, she had a mild heart attack at about 2 am. She was taken by ambulance to Lincoln, they found she had blockage in her arteries, and when they put the scope in they also got her stomach cavity twisted. Meanwhile, she also developed pneumonia and they found she had fluid in her lungs, throughout this whole ordeal. On Saturday she went "code blue" and stopped breathing and was revived by CPR, doctors gave her a 50/50 chance of making it through the night. To say I was absolutely heartbroken would've been an understatement. I spent most of Saturday in prayer, I think I woke up at least 5-10 times throughout the night wondering and praying for her, clinging to the hope and promise of her making it.

I just prayed it was not our last goodbye.

Yesterday she was doing a little better, less sedated and more aware of her surroundings. Last week I sent pictures of Cash to my dad to give to her at the local hospital (since I knew she wouldn't be home to get mail) not knowing any of this would happen. Dad brought those pictures to her yesterday and everyone was in the room when they opened the envelope of pictures. As my sister flipped through the pictures she (my grandma) opened her eyes and was more responsive than she had been all weekend long. My sister said those picture were the best thing ever. The rest of the day when visitors came in grandma would lift her hand and point to the pictures we sent, that they taped onto her wall so she could see them.

I would do anything to be there and hold her hand and tell her I love her. She needs prayers, lots of prayers, she has a very long road ahead of her.

I'm just asking y'all to say a prayer for her if you think of it, she needs it more than ever.

Happy Friday Everyone!!!

We started off our week with snow...and I woke up this morning to rain. Very odd for all this moisture in 1 week for West Texas, but I'm not complaining. Thinking we'll hit up my favorite antique shops today due to the inclement weather! :)

Our week started out making a snow man or maybe woman...since all I could find in our closet was a pink scarf. Hah! Sadly our snowman melted and went to snowman heaven about 2 hours after we made it...now we just have some old melted gumballs and two orange straws laying in our lawn. So sad.

{please excuse the skewer through his head, that darn hat would not stop blowing off...}

Tuesday we opened Valentines, Nugget rolled in the most love cards at a whoping 8...can't say I blame his admirers, he's easy to love.

I also downloaded picplz for my droid...does anybody else use this phone app? It's alright, still haven't figured out how to upload to a flickr account so I can put pictures on my blog, but I'm sure I will soon enough. I sort of envy all those people with iphones that get to use instagram, why didn't I buy an iphone when I upgraded my phone last year?

Bah. oh yea, because I'm a cheap-o! ;)

I also found this image on pinterest and now I really would like two huge monogrammed his/her shams for our bed. So pretty, may just have to do this, you know I love me some pillows!

I also found these darling handmade pants on Grace Happens Blog. Love the combination of

stripes + plaid. Especially like the red gingham + the railroaded blue stripes! I'm off to pick up some fabric and dust off my sewing machine to make a few of these for nugget!

Last but not least, I couldn't leave you without a yummy peppermint patty picture from Fly Through our Window blog. I know Valentine's day is past, but I'm planning on whipping up a batch of these this weekend too!

For as long as I can remember I've always loved neutrals.

give me black, white, beige, camel ANYTHING and I am a happy camper. Some may think neutrals are boring, but I beg to differ!

{for the record I also love color....it's totally acceptable to have an intense, deep love for both right?}

I can spend hours obsessing over the black + camel color combination, like this room below:

rich camel furniture + black accents = sheer timeless perfection.

and I'm thinking if this room were a bag it'd be this Longchamp tote I've been eyeballing for weeks!

While in Dallas over the weekend I stopped into Anthropologie...you know how much I can't resist that store!

While strolling through, I found this book below written by the former Domino Magazine founding editor Deborah Needleman. Not only is the title super cute, but the watercolor illustrations were totally inspiring (you remember my post on painting right?).

{weekend}

We had such a great time in the big city over the weekend, but of course are happy to be back home and to our normal routine this morning! :)

We basically just hung out and ate yummy food all weekend long... it was perfect. We also realized how "country" we have become since moving to Texas. I seriously had sweaty palms the entire time we were driving around the city going 75mph on crazy freeways, with no one using their turn signals or brakes. We stayed in the uptown area and also experienced sleeping with the airplanes, sirens, and honking cars all night long....I guess we have sort of gotten used to the peace and quiet of sleeping in the middle of a cotton field in nowhere Texas!

Yesterday morning we went on a walk (despite the chilly temps) in the Highland Park area! You know I never turn down an opportunity to see beautiful homes! :)

We stopped for a few photo ops along the way! Yes, I swear I fall more and more in love with this little nugget every single day!

{friday randomness}

Happy Friday Y'all!

This week has been a doozy- you'd think after months of Chance working long hours I'd get used to it, but that just isn't the case. Sadly, I didn't get as much e*design work done this week as I'd like and now I'm feeling a little behind. Ugh, oh well next week is always a new week (right?) and I was super excited when husband texted me yesterday asking...

"do you want to go to Dallas this weekend?"

uhhhh, YES! is that even a question!? :)

So I guess we'll be taking an impromptu trip to the big D this weekend for a little mini vaca and some design inspiration! It's long overdue considering we are those type of people that continually make excuses for not going out and doing things, you know what I'm talking about, it's so EASY to make excuses once you have kids...

no babysitter, not enough time, not enough money, what would we do, can't get off work, ect. ect.

it's horrible, but we are very guilty of falling into that category OFTEN.

Anyways- here's some random { love} from our week:

1. paper mache birds I got at Michael's for cheap in the dollar section...they remind me of our ceramic cake topper birds that we lost after our wedding!

2. sparkly glitter heard garland with leftover scrapbook paper....Cash even helped with this project! He was the heart "organizer" I cut them out and he threw them everywhere! ;)

3. new silicone cupcake liners waiting to be filled with yummy cake batter for valentine's day!

4. drinks are always better with a pink straw in them...don't you think?

5. love when my husband doodles our names on notepads- random scribbles on top are courtesy of Cash (who seems to always find a random pen floating around to scribble on papers with!)

6. I'm turning into my mother more and more. I cannot resist nibs, I totally justify these chewy goodies because the package says they are a "low fat" snack! Yep that's exactly what I tell myself too!

7. Chalkboard love notes!

8. Play dates outside with Cash...the kid loves being outside.

9. LOVE that the fern my M-I-L gave us is finally flourishing and growing!

{design trend: lacquer}

How about a little lacquer love for today? It's not something I usually use in my design's because quite honestly, it's not very practical. Lacquer must be applied on very smooth surfaces to get the best coverage (any dints or dings in a piece of furniture or a wall and your lacquer is going to look less than superb- high gloss finishes show everything!) Also, lacquer shows fingerprints, so if you have little's high gloss finishes aren't always the best option for you.... (unless you like cleaning!)

But I gotta say, I love how lacquer breathes new life into old antiques!

Love this pop of red!

Black lacquer looks super sophisticated and elegant, don't you think?

Or if you are of the daring-type how about doing your entire wall in lacquer? I think lacquer looks best if you have some millwork on your walls- gives some dimension and the shiny sheen helps highlight the woodwork!

Or how about giving your kitchen cabs a face lift? I'm not sure I'd ever be brave enough to do this, but I love how the high gloss gives it that glamorous quality.

{Design Dialogue}

Today I thought it'd be fun to do a little design dialogue! Where I answer some questions and tell you a little about myself! Hope you all enjoy- if not, come back tomorrow I promise this is just a one day thing (I really don't like talking about myself, pretty interiors are way more fun to talk about!)

What you do:

I’m a wife, momma, and interior designer juggling a growing interior e*design business!

Five words to describe yourself:

Motivated . Creative . Driven . Loving . Dreamer .

How would you describe your aesthetic?

I think my design aesthetic is influenced by all my daily surroundings as well as my life’s history—I design for real people, not magazine covers. I love traditional, classic, timeless design with a few touches of modern and trendy accessories to keep it lively and fresh (the key is that these “trendy pieces” are easy to change as your style evolves with your life…nothing should ever stay the same and neither should your home decor). I think every space needs a touch of green (life), some patina (antiques or metal), some type of metallic or reflective surface to bounce natural light, something un-expected or a conversation piece (pop of color, unique art, funky accessory, ect), and of course the most importantly the rooms need to be a true reflection of my clients (family photographs, heirloom keepsakes, books, ect). And of course, being a mother myself I know all rooms need to be practical for real life…because let’s be honest, we aren’t going to put a $1,000 vase on a coffee table if our little smidgens can reach it!

How did you decide you wanted to be an interior designer?

I’ve actually always known I wanted to be an interior designer. When all my little friends were watching Nickelodeon, I was watching HGTV. No joke. My favorite nights were “Saturday Night Design all Night”, I would sit in front of the TV and not get up until I’d watched every single episode (my favorite was decorating cents!). I was an odd ball growing up. I would re-arrange furniture (I still don’t know how I managaged to move our humungous 1980’s sofas around by myself…), I’d beg my mother to let me paint my room & sew my own curtains for 4-H. I even lived in our basement storage room with cement floors and cinderblock walls just to prove I could transform "nothing" into something. It was so great- my friends seriously thought I had the coolest room on the block (except of course for when furnace kicked on all night long...) Haha! I have to laugh now at all it’s ridiculousness. But I really have always known Interior Design was my calling and my passion. As soon as I graduated high school I went to college at the University of Nebraska Lincoln for Interior Design, got accepted, and finished my program in 4 years and also got a minor in Art. I never swaggered in my decision to pursue Interior Design. It’s kind of like when you meet your soul mate, when ya’ know, you know! :)

What are the best and worst parts of your job?

My greatest joy is hearing positive and encouraging feedback from my E*Design clients. An added perk to my job is getting to be home with my baby as well as getting to pursue my passion for Interior Design. I really do feel like I have the best of both worlds.

The worst part is trying to find the balance between working from home & taking care of my boy. I think setting boundaries is so important when you are a “work at home” momma. Making sure to always be present and prioritize as much as possible. I work during nap time, in the early mornings and on weekends. I try to reserve the evenings for family time, this is just what works for us as a family. Although, I don’t always have the balance right, I’m always trying!

Also- tricky is the numbers thing, learning how to run a effective business is hard work ( looking back I should have taken a few business classes…just to educate myself). Luckily I have some pretty good resources in my family to use for all my business & marketing related questions. I’m learning the business side of Interior Design as I go—business knowledge can be taught and learned but having a passion for Interior Design is something you are just born with- can’t buy that at any store. Also, I really think putting a value on your education is super important in this business. I refer to myself as a “designer” because I have the education, knowledge, and expertise to back it up (okay I also have an expensive diaploma as well!). You may pay a little more for a “designer” verses a “decorator” because you are paying for their knowledge as well as their education and talent, I think that’s important to emphasize in this day where the online market is getting saturated with interior decorators. I think there is a place for both designers &decorators but knowing the difference and finding the right fit for a client is imporant!

What advice would you offer aspiring creatives?

Most creative people are also very passionate people. I say just. do. it. I wish someone would have told me that when I graduated (verses, good luck trying find a design job in a shaky economy…) I started reading Interior Design blogs when I graduated in 2009 – but let’s be honest reading blogs doesn’t pay the bills, but I spent hours and hours examining my favorite designer rooms ( I still do! I even take "notes" on my favorite blogs!), reading design blogs and magazines, finding out all about the “design blog world” . I did my internship in Big Sky, Montana working for a high end Residential Interior Design Firm—I learned TONS about the business side of design while being there, I also learned a lot about myself. I ending up spending my first summer after I graduated nannying 3 kids for a local family, I then landed a managerial job a boutique store—neither of these were my “passion” but they paid the bills when the economy was rocky and gave me a foundation for my future. I’d actually probably still be working a similar job if it weren’t for God's grace!

Somewhere between all that, I met my husband, had a baby, moved to a different state, and life brought me to the point where I am now: a work-at-home/stay-at-home mom. I absolutely love it. But if it weren’t for God opening up doors for our family I’d probably not have had the courage to quit my day job to pursue my dream. But I’m telling you keep your day job- start small, do a little on side or in the evenings (nothing good ever came without putting in some hard work), start a blog, get a website, make up some business cards, do whatever you have to do to get a start- because nobody will make your dream come true more than you can. Don’t ever loose sight of your dream. My dream is 10-15 years in the making (since I was a little girl) and I’m still not to where I long to be, but I know I will get there if I keep pursuing my passion.

Where would you like to see your business in five years?

I would love to continue growing my blog and Interior Design business- enough to be able to do it as a full time job. As well as, make new clients, get published in a magazine and maybe even have a store front office space someday! Sky's the limit!

Three items on your wishlist:

Timi & Leslie Charlie Diaper bag (were due for a new one!), Macro Camera Lens for my Nikon, and a vacation to somewhere tropical with my husband!

Three tasks on your bucket list:

Buy a house, Travel, and continue making new clients and growing my business!

One of my favorite parts of my "job" as an interior designer is getting to use my imagination on every single project! It's a dream come true! I'm always dreaming up ideas for spaces (even if they aren't client projects!).

*disclaimer please don't judge these photoshoped images too closely, they are just a rough "mock-up" of what the space could look like!*

Here is a picture my sister's kitchen below, she wants to do something different with the space. It's narrow, long, out-dated, and quite dark! It also serves as a hallway into the rest of the house, so it gets a ton of foot traffic. She's just not in-love with it anymore (she used to love primitive country decor...) and she wanted my personal opinion! Right now they just want to give it a face lift until they can afford to full remodel down the road.

Here's the kitchen as in it's current state:

Since my B-I-L isn't sold on painting the cabs just yet, I tried to work with the existing ones. My first order of business was lightening up the space (with only two small windows, this kitchen doesn't get much natural light and the dark cabinet stain doesn't help) so I suggested painting the walls a fresh and airy light grey! We then had to figure out the flooring choice (still debating between tile and hardwood). This picture shows what a tile floor may look like. Tile is super easy to clean and is so durable which would be nice for all the dirty cowboy boots that come trotting through this space! I also inserted a classic white subway tile back splash, a neutral granite counter top, hardware, and some new accessories. You can see how even though the existing cabs are still dark, changing everything else in the room really lightens up the whole space and gives the kitchen a real face lift!

Option 1:

I personally thought painting the dark cabs would really make the most dramatic impact on the space. Below is an example of what white cabs would look like in this kitchen. They make such a difference! I also suggested painting the soffit above the cabs to really create the illusion that the cabinets where taller than they actually are. This is pretty rough, but gives the general idea (for the record I would not paint the back splash that peachy of a color I just picked a color in the accent fabric and put it on the back splash so my sister could sort of get a feel for what a colored back splash would look like.

Option 2:

The last image is probably my personal favorite! I love the contrast of the dark wood floors paired with the crisp white cabs- you can't go wrong with this combination!

I always say, I wish I could just have other's just jump inside my head and visualize what I see for their spaces, but until I can figure out those super-powers I'm left with doing photoshoped mock-ups like these!

life is too short to not do what you love. thankful I'm getting to do just that.

I also fell in love with this beautiful Nate Berkus ottoman below...only to find out it's sold out.

I'm heartbroken y'all, it's so beautiful although I can't imagine we'd ever keep it looking this white in our house anyway. probably for the better!

Also- Toms debuted their new ballet flats, hello cuteness.

I'm usually not a "leopard print" kind of girl in my clothing choices but I think those leopard flats would be adorable with so many outfits!

Also while scooping for inspiration, I found this sweet girl's room. Planning on doing a twin (bed) feature soon! I'm loving the look of two twin beds in one room, it reminds me of my childhood days of sharing a room with my own sister! So sweet...the color palate is also fabulous!

And I'm still gathering {dream-y} office space pictures...love the grey cabinets and the framed silhouette art in this image below.

Last but not least I couldn't leave you guys without a picture of my little man...I'm telling you, he is getting so big, it's scaring me (in a good sort of way...) I asked him yesterday to get a diaper (not thinking he even knew what a diaper really was) and a minute later he comes out in the living room carrying a diaper in his hand!!! I could not believe it. THEN of course naturally I started clapping and hoopin and hollerin' like a crazy lady because I was so stinkin' proud of him!! I'm sure he thought I lost my marbles.

Later on (just to test his knowledge...) I decided to ask him another random question. This time, I asked him where his swing was and sure enough the kid takes his little chubby index finger and points outside the window to his tree swing in the front yard. I was so amazed..and now I totally get that

"proud mommy, my kid is totally the smartest kid in the whole world feeling!"

He's pretty darn sweet...

One thing that sets apart a {good} interior designer from a {great} interior designer {in my opinion!}

is that a great interior designer puts an huge amount of thought and care into choosing beautiful details that fill the space they are working on. It may be the nail head trim on an arm chair, a repeating pattern in the architecture, or something as simple as a beautifully lined kitchen drawer or unique door knob.

Here's one of my favorite examples below, I'm going ga-ga over these cremone locks used on this built-in china cupboard. First of all, the arched doors are gorgeous, but adding those cremone locks just seals the deal for me. The display of white and clear glass dishes look equally as lovely! I wouldn't change a single thing.

So, I'm curious are you a detail oriented person? Do you notice the little things?

I love everything about the feel of this room, seems very live-able to me, like a stylish man-cave...or actually in this case a man-attic! The comfy plaid sofa, mix-matched furniture, brass sconce, planked walls, wire lamp shade- it's all so good!

haha , even the air conditioning unit in the corner- real life!

{fashion & interiors: fur}

Happy Monday Lovelies!

The thing I love the most about the world of design is that all types of design (interiors, textile, fashion, graphic, architecture) parallel one another! For example, what you see on the fashion runway directly influences what you see in the home design trends...cool huh?

Although, I know spring is right around the corner-- winter fur is still popping up all over interiors (and was shown all over the runway this fall/winter).

And no matter what season it is, I've never met a person who doesn't love a "cozy feeling" room and nothing warms up a room more than a fur throw blanket! We own a faux one and I'm telling you it is so amazing we are guilty of using it year round. Partially because I'm ALWAYS cold, and partially because its so fabulous. I usually drag it out in the winter and throw it over our sofa back and in the spring/summer I tuck it in a near-by basket... it's every body's favorite blanket! Plus, fur adds instant texture and a hint of glamor to any space.

Also, Mr. Cattlebuyer arrived safely home yesterday afternoon, and I gotta say I've never been happier to see him! Thanks for keeping him (and me!) in your prayers. We greeted him with big hugs & a "brinner" (breakfast dinner) it was a great evening! But, we are back to the grind today!

Welcome to another edition of Friday RANDOMNESS. where everything is pretty random.

the story of my life...

Today is a very sad Friday at our house- we are saying goodbye to Mr. Cattlebuyer today. He's off to get his shiny new pickup, while me and nugget soothe our sorrows at the mall.

I told him we'd just "window" shop. but I may end up doing some retail therapy and spend a few gift cards I got over the holidays...we shall see! I also doubled up on whip cream in my coffee this morning hoping my whip cream overload would calm my tears. it didn't work, I'm still bummed about him leaving.

Anyways-- here's a glimpse at some {pinterest} randomness.

{design board:Young Girl's Bedroom}

I told you last week how I've had the privilege of working on some girl-y spaces for my E*design clients, and this is another one of those spaces!

This young girl's bedroom was already painted {robin's egg blue} and the bedding {multi-colored paisley} was already purchased as well as all the furniture pieces. My job was to tie everything together and put some finishing touches on the room using art, accessories, and textiles. We ended up going a little "shabby chic/vintage" with the room, not too grown up yet not too juvenile either....it was a fine balance create the perfect room for this young girl. Since her original bedding was visually busy in pattern and color we let that be the focal point of the room and worked with more subtle patterns for all the finishing pieces- the window treatment, rugs, art, ect. We pulled the accent colors: turquoise, hot pink, and orange directly out of the bedding. Overall, I think all the accessories and art choices really pull the room together as well as make the focal point (the bed in this case...) a true show stopper!

I gotta admit, I'm partial to children's rooms- they are always super fun to work on! Big thank you to my amazing E*design clients, y'all are the best!

I first spotted this dreamy headboard, the pattern + coral red = L.O.V.E

this wing back chair is pretty fabulous as well, the exposed frame is exceptionally pretty.

or how about a wall mural in otomi-- wouldn't this be an amazing focal wall in a nursery?

{Friday Randomness: tgif}

Did anybody else think this was super LONG week or was it just me?

So happy it's FRIDAY.

Mr. Cattlebuyer is in Amarillo today, Muleshoe tomorrow, and next weekend he is going to be gone all weekend long going back home to get his new company pick-up! Not to mention every day he puts in 13+ hr days at the plant. We miss him. and I think that's partially what makes our days seem twice as long here at home.

But, I am very thankful for his job even if it takes away from "us" more than I'd like it too...and I'm especially proud of all his hard work.

okay. enough of that.

onto the business of the day:

Friday Randomness (I haven't done it for a while...but I'm starting it back up- I like that it gives me an opportunity to share a little about myself, some behind the scenes of our life...)

Lately, I've been smoochin' these cheeks...

and we've been playing A LOT of farmer....my nugget loves his tractors!

Okay and when I'm not smoochin' or playin' farmer, I've been admiring this necklace- cute huh? thinking possible DIY project.

Okay and I think all those john deere tractors are wearin' off on me...because I really love this kelly green blouse.

I also finished up this new silohuette horse art for nugget's room....let me tell you being married to a horse lover- he was critiquing every on of my brush strokes. He told me my horse sketch looked "good" so I figured it was great to start painting- well once I got the paint on the canvas and held it up vertically he told me it looked like a long wiener dog! I was mortified and so sad. Luckily with his suggestions I got the body balanced out and now I think it looks more like a horse and less like a dog.

I'm also still dreaming of my office space...some day.

These cookies to be exact. They are amazing, they are worth walking a few extra laps at the park for...

Just in the past couple weeks I've been working on some girl-y spaces for my fabulous E*design clients.

This is one of those sweet rooms below....

I love the subtle hints of light pink and baby blue paired with a few touches of gold....makes this nursery sweet enough for baby but sophisticated enough for the Momma- to-be! As all of us momma's know she will spend many hours in that rocking chair!

If this board doesn't make you want to have a little girl than I don't know what does! :)

Sneeky peaks of Cash's nursery (ahhh, is it totally inappropriate to call it his "nursery" when he's not a newborn anymore?)

I don't know..but I'm rollin with "nursery" it's not like he's in a big boy bed yet.. right?

still working on his crib and a few other little things...I've gone a little more modern cowboy-ish (did you notice his new stripe-y artwork?) hoping one day (probably when he really is in his big boy bed) I'll have his room "done."

{layering up}

Just like any good outfit...

adding layers of elements makes things more interesting. more dynamtic. more appealing to the eye.

same rules apply for interior design and rugs- believe it or not!

The look of layered rugs {hide + sisal or jute} has been around for a while but it's still hot as ever- the immediate texture it provides is simple beautiful.

I especially love the contrast of the organic lines of the hide rug paired with the structured lines of a textured jute or sisal rug. They just play off each other perfectly. And the contrast in textures is just the icing on the cake.

So how about you? Are you ready to layer up a bit this winter?

Happy Monday Friends!

The wind is blowing fierce here in West Texas...thinkin' we will probably camp out inside today. I have a few projects that have been on the back burner for months that I need to wrap up around here...one of which is a little DIY art project for Nugget's room.

I've been admiring artists like Caitlin McGauley a lot lately, I just can't get enough of her watercolor artwork.

Here's where I first saw her art- this black and white portrait caught my eye immediately. The glamorous gold frame hung on the dark black bookshelves just takes the artwork to a whole 'nother level of drama!

Don't you agree?

Here is that fabulous lady in the portrait... I love the simple lines of her silhouette and her expression.

But after doing some further investigating into Caitlin's work, I have to say my absolute favorites are her interior paintings:

I love her bold punchy color choices and the eclectic vibe of the interiors she paints. You can see more of her artwork here and maybe even buy a few pieces for yourself.

As for me- I'm off to dig out my watercolors from college! I would love to be able to paint some of the rooms I design for my clients (someday)!

Happy Friday Modern Grace Lovers!

{Did you notice my new header? I'm so fickle when it comes to my blog design...I always gotta change it up! I thought my last design was getting a little "busy" on the eye, trying to simplify things around here for 2012. Anyways, hope you like it! I have a few more things to edit, but hope to have it all done soon!}

on a more designerly note:

Lately I've been obsessing (i know, i know, i obsess a lot!) over this Schumacher fabric Chenonceau (Fawn)... I think it's pretty much swoon worthy, don't you agree?

It even comes as a wallpaper, talk about making a statement!

I'm partial to the more neutral colorway....such a great backdrop!

Here it is used in drapes, very elegant yet with hint of whimsy.

I even love it on a small scale, check out these envelopes lined with it by Mary Mcdonald.

Cute huh?

I think it would look especially great on an upholstered headboard....or maybe some throw pillows.

My head is spinning with ideas on where I could use this print!

I ran across Maria Beck's Blog "Live Beautifully" the other day...and I was totally smitten. This girl has some serious style- and she graduated from Texas Tech which is pretty cool too since that's right down the road from our house!

Anyways....

You should definitely check out her blog, and check out these 5 armed chandeliers she used in this dining room, aren't they gorgeous? I love that she doubled them up for a bigger impact with those tall ceilings. So great!

In other random news: I got this cutie below in the mail yesterday!

Anyways, I've just been dreaming how amazing it would be to have this organized office some day...

think of how many fabric samples you could store in those gorgeous baskets, and that wall of bookshelves would hold my design book collection oh so perfectly.

I've always been a girly girl....I don't even think I wore denim jeans (except one year during the county fair when my mom made me wear them...and that was first and last time I showed a bucket calf!) until maybe 5th or 6th grade!

up until then it was either:

a) leggings

b) skirt

c) dress

I did eventually got over my funk with denim (i thought it was "scratchy")....ya know when I hit middle school and started caring more about what other's thought of me (boys...) and less about comfort. haha!

Anyways...this is all to say that deep down inside I'm still that girly girl. Nothing I love more than wearing a cute skirt or dress (probably with my favorite pair of boots). And nothing I love admiring more than a pretty skirted table. I especially love a pleated and structured table skirt- they just look so tailored and classic.

Plus, skirted tables are a great place to hide your ~~junk~~ stuff! And who doesn't love that!? :)

This is one of my very first kitchen design boards- when my client contacted me you know I was over.the.moon. excited! Kitchen design is VERY involved...and I would always, always, always, recommend a good contractor before you even think about beginning a project of this magnitude. You just never know what you are going to find with kitchens...thus they are a little more labor intensive than just remodeling a bedroom or hallway!

Anyways- where I'm am going...is this, If you really want to see HOW it is all going to look together, design boards are so fabulous for kitchens! This client needed just that- piece of mind that her vision was actually going to look great in real life!

Kitchens are also one of the most expensive rooms in your house to design/remodel- so you really don't want to screw it up! A lot of people complain about "interior design fees" - but I'm also going to say this....in the long run interior designers can actually SAVE you money. Look at it this way, do it once, the RIGHT way, or doing it 3-4 times the wrong way (wrong paint color, outdated furniture, horrible lighting, bad space planning). You are always going to save money by doing it the right way the first time!

We kept most of the main surfaces (cabinets, counters, back splash) crisp, clean white (we kept it visually appealing by adding lots of textures!)....and added rich accents of black, brown , and metallic gold and silver! I'm guaranteeing this kitchen design will be stylish for a long time to come! The mixed metals and touches of masculine wood with feminine glass and gold touches really make this kitchen a winner!

{trend alert: convex mirrors }

Now that we are all done reflecting on 2011{or most of us...did my baby really just become a toddler right before my eyes?} I figured today would be a good day to really reflect on what's popping up in home decor trends...mirrors. convex mirrors to be specific.

I try to always stay on top of home decor trends...it part of my job after all. {Pretty sweet huh?}

And I gotta say the Convex mirror is really making it's comeback! In case you don't believe me, I'm providing you with ample images...

Do you own a convex mirror? If so, I'm completely jealous....I think I really need to score a few for my own home. I love that they are something different to use than the uber popular star burst mirror. I vote Convex Mirrors for 2012!

Also, I want to wish my {big} sister a Happy Birthday today! I sure wish we lived closer to help celebrate with you, but I'll be thinking of you tonight- eat piece of cake for me please! :)

Have you noticed these green glass bottles popping up EVERYWHERE?!

I can't help but take notice...it seems like every magazine I open up has a set of Pellegrino bottles hiding somewhere in the featured kitchen.

I say if the packaging is pretty- go for it! I'm sort of partial to the green glass + blue label myself. So, go get yourself some pretty new water bottles- who knew you could shop home decor at the grocery store?! :)

{before & after}

There's nothing I love more than looking at before and after photos....well besides smooching my little nugget! {but that doesn't count!}

This living room took on a whole new look, don't you agree?! The "before" walls were mucky green faux paint. The fire place was boring and blended into the wall too much.

We painted the room a warm mocha brown and painted the fireplace a crisp and clean white to make it really pop against the walls. To enhance the fireplace we also added custom made bookcases on either side of the fireplace and added a gorgeous black granite fireplace base. We also removed the blinds from the cool architectural windows flanking the fireplace & added some great comfortable furniture, and a pretty rug to ground the space. We did add artwork, a wicker tray to the ottoman, and a cool arc lamp after these pictures were taken, but overall you can see the huge improvement made to this living room just by adding a new coat of paint and some fabulous furniture!

I hope to share more of my before & after rooms with you all this year!

One of my goals for the new year is to improve Modern Grace Designs!

Last night I created PayPal links on my Interior Design Consultation's page....so now there will be less invoices for me to send out (woo hoo!) making the process quicker and easier (for both of us!). I also added a form site which all 1st time Clients can go to and fill out some general information for me about themselves and their room (s)...this is going to be super helpful and informative for me to refer to in the design process!

I also created another option for those local people that need help with their homes!

"In-home" Design Consultations, which are paid for by the hour. If you are local and wanting to take the design process on yourself but are needing help getting pointed in the right direction then I would be happy to help with an hourly design consultation. The hour (s) is yours to ask whatever you would like. We can walk through your home room-by-room or spend the time in one room exploring different design options, furniture layouts, wall treatments/ paint options, window treatment options, furniture suggestions,and home decor. With this option you pay instantly for the 1st hour and I will invoice you for any additional hours you would like to add.

You can also add the "The Complete" Package in conjuction with the "In-home" Package if you would like a Room Vision/Design Board done for your space as well as an in home visit. Please just email me for prices (I offer a combination discount for this option!)

{2011 recap}

The end of 2011- how could it be? It seems the older I get the quicker the years pass? Why is that? I have to say it's been an amazing year watching our little baby boy grow into a little man with a big personality to boot. A year ago - I was quiting my job to become a stay at home momma, allowing my husband to take on a new job. I was thinking I'd go absolutely crazy staying home all day long...I'm a go-getter you see. So staying home by myself with a new baby seemed frightening and completely overwhelming to me, I was worried I'd be miserable.

But I'm here, now. saying I haven't regreted that decision one bit. Someone once said to me "You will never regret a day spent with your kids, But you will ALWAYS regret a day spent at work that you could have spent with your kids." I couldn't agree more. Time passes so quickly...I'm so blessed to have gotten to spend the last year with my baby watching him, teaching him, comforting him, loving on him, and ultimately learning from him how to be a great momma. I will always look back on 2011 with such fond memories.

So anyways, I thought it'd be fun to go back through the year and share what all was happening here on the blog & with our little family.

January:

Our BIG move to Texas- Mr. Cattlebuyer's new job- meeting new Texas friends-new home- missing our old home

February:

My mom came to visit us- still meeting new friends- new baby goats at our house- Cash is getting bigger and bigger every day- went to our new church for the 1st time- Grandpa passed away- still missing home terribly

March:

Lots of visitors this month (Burkeys and Uncle Cole) - Cash turned 6 months old - missing home even more now

April:

My Birthday and Easter fell on the same exact day- Start walking at the park every day- Days spent laying on the blanket in the front yard

May:

Our trip back home for family pictures- wedding shower - Cash's Baptism- Texas is starting to feel like our new "home"

June:

Summer mornings spent at the park- swinging in the front yard tree- evening walks with daddy at the bike trail- watering our lawn like crazy!

July:

Our trip back to Nebraska for our friend's wedding- Less Park, More Air conditioning (Texas drought)- Cash experienced a pool for the first time- Attended the 4th of July Parade

August:

we got married- need I say more? It was my favorite month by far.

September:

Our niece Atleigh was born- Cash's 1st Birthday Party with our Texas friends- Trip to the Pumpkin Patch- Evening walks on the hike n' bike as a family

October:

Cash's Rooster Halloween Costume was a hit- Trip back home to see family and celebrate Cash's Birthday with Family, Our Friends the Burkey's came to visit, Another trip to a different Pumpkin Patch

November:

Grandma Sherri and Uncle Cole came to visit us for Thanksgiving- Our 2nd new niece Persephone was born! -1st snowfall- Enjoying the beautiful fall weather- Family Christmas Pictures-

December:

Christmas Shopping- Christmas visit to see all our family- Christmas Eve Candle light service- Christmas morning opening gifts & eating cinnamon rolls

I cannot wait to see what 2012 holds for our little family...I have a feeling it's going to be a BIG year for us! :)

{color crush: tangerine tango}

Have you heard the news? Pantone's 2012 color of the year is Tangerine Tango (last year was Honeysuckle and the year before that Turquoise)! It's described as a “high-visibility, magnetic hue,” expect to see Tangerine Tango appear in fashion, cosmetics, and even home decor.

According to Pantone, Tangerine Tango adds a “dynamic burst of energy” to the home if used sparingly in home accessories such as in pillows, bedspreads, and art. Or, perhaps painted on one wall of a room.

Talk about a bold color choice Pantone! I love using orange- its such an expressive, energetic, vibrant color and adds the perfect punch for nearly any room.

Here are a few of my favorite orange-y spaces:

Talk about a dream closet! Ah-mazing! Loving the glamorous combination of orange and gold.

love this punchy accent wall and that sink takes the cake! Anybody know where I can find me one of them- and so continues my on going obsession with plumbing fixtures! :)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these monogram pillows.

this storage ottoman (you know I'm dying over the nail head trim detailing...) is not only functional but quite pretty as well!

{design board: dining & family room}

I just recently "wrapped up" a couple design boards before the holiday festivities began. This gorgeous dining room and family room are from the same amazing client's house. I am thrilled with how they turned out. We may still tweek a few things...but overall I think both room boards achieved the relaxed cozy feeling we were going for! The homeowner wanted the dining room to have a little bit of a "lighter" feeling....more neutrals less color, you know I was totally okay with that! ;) Love me some neutrals.

So here are the design boards, you can see for yourself how beautiful they turned out! I can't wait to see these rooms once they are all put together!

Cash's 2nd Christmas was nothing short of magical and joy-filled....especially with the pretty snowfall we had over the weekend in West Texas (yes, we had snow in Texas!). We attended Christmas Eve candlelight service Saturday night, and opened gifts and ate our traditional yummy Cinnamon rolls Sunday morning. We spent the rest of yesterday enjoying the holiday with our friends in Lubbock. I have to say every year together as a family just keeps getting better and better. I can hardly wait to see where life takes us next Christmas....

Today is Book Pages, yes, I'm sure you all are rolling your eyes wondering if I've gone off the deep end.

Book Pages add texture are super CHEAP (woohoo!) and can easily be used in various ways....

Hope this post inspires some of you to think differently about those old books you have laying around your house....sheet music or dictionaries work great too! Can you believe Christmas Eve is tomorrow!?

Well to continue on... with my traditional and classic holiday decor. I'm mixin' in a little more of my favorite elements....and if you haven't noticed feathers are everywhere this year!

I love the texture they have- and they seem to look good just about anywhere...classic yet slightly un-expected at Christmas time.

I especially love them on wreaths- like this bleached peacock feather wreath. for.the.record. I'd keep this baby out year round.

Or the more classic white feather....which seems a little glamorous to me.

Maybe a wreath is too much for you?

How about this genius idea feather + clear Christmas bulb....love how it makes the feathers appear so they are floating!

Or perhaps a feather tree is more your style? Such a pretty vignette, except that wrinkle-ly slipcover on the chairs is driving me nuts! anyone else?

Feather decorative balls are always a great idea too. Tuck these guys in a pretty bowl with some greenery and you are set!

Another great idea- if you just want to add a hint of feather-y fun...stick a few in your garland for the perfect touch.

Continuing on with my "Countdown to Christmas" holiday decor, today's feature is mercury glass. I'm such a sucker for anything made of mercury glass....I love the sophisticated elegance of it, and of course, it's vintage charm!

some pretty candlesticks in a vignette makes a BIG statement, and adds lots of sparkle!

I can't be Christmas without some pretty mercury glass ornaments...

or how about these cutie Christmas trees...

Maybe just changing out the drawer pulls on a piece of existing furniture would do the trick for you...

I'm head over heels for this cluster of ornaments.

and if you want to invest in a larger piece, mercury glass lamp's are always timeless! Probably want to wait until your kiddos are well into adulthood for one of these beauties if you know what I mean....I'd cry if one of these lamp bases broke.

That's all I got for you guys today- now go to your nearest Antique Store (or Pottery Barn if you aren't the junkin' type) and buy some mercury glass and see how pretty it is for yourself!

I finally got all my work caught up yesterday- sent out the last of my Etsy shop orders, Christmas cards (i know, I ran out of cards so I had to print more- thus some are a little late this year! Sorry friends & family!), and even made sugar cookies last night. I'm packaging up some yummy cookies for our mailman and for Mr.Cattlebuyer to take to work. Then I'm going to sit back and enjoy every single second of the Christmas spirit this week...it truly is the one of the best times of the year! Don't you agree?

It just so happens that the number of glittered objects in my house multiplies during Christmas time...which reminds me how much I really love glitter even if I'm constantly vacuuming up the stuff. I easily forgive.

Not only do they make glittery scrapbook paper...but they also now make glitter WALLPAPER. shut the front door. I'm thinking I really need a sparkly glittery closet some day....how awesome would that be?

Last but not least....for all those holiday parties, you can't forget to put a little glitter on yourself with this sparkly sequin number. I see pairing this will a simple black blazer and some cute pumps.

Happy Tuesday Friends!

I've spent the better part of the day un-packing our bags from our fun week back home! And now I feel like it's REALLY Christmas time. There's just something special about being with your family and friends that really makes it feel like the holidays. So glad we could get away to see everyone, even if time went all too fast...

This week since I'm still rollin' in all the holiday spirit, and checking off things on my to-do list.

I'm featuring one of my favorite classic fabrics. it just so happens to be plaid.

Christmas isn't complete without a little Buffalo Check Plaid. It's just so classic and timeless ...I really never get sick of looking at it. Too me, a dark navy blue, brown, green, or the classic red buffalo check just screams cozy wintertime fabulous-ness!

Hummm....I wonder if it's too late to add a buffalo check flannel blanket to my Christmas list? ;)

Happy Monday errrr....Tuesday I mean! ;)

I didn't even get a post written yesterday! Ah, that NEVER happens, but maybe that tells you how busy I've been! We are heading out today for a trip back home for the holidays so I've been up to my eyeballs in shopping, wrapping, packing, design work, ironing, and cleaning! You know the drill I'm sure...

I can't believe Christmas is right around the corner, wasn't it just Dec. 1??

Anyways....

Does anybody else feel like they have a constant to-do list 100 items deep continually running in their head?

okay....because I do. and I know I bring this upon myself....but its the way I was made.

I need to-do lists for my to-do lists. and I'm okay with that because to be honest I work better under pressure and deadlines and (just a little) stress. And really none of this real life business even compares to the stress of design school--which is where I learned the true power of caffeinated beverages.

(have you ever tried melting a candy cane in your coffee? I highly recommend it. Been doing it all week and it's amazing. Bob's candy canes from Wal Mart. go get yourself some. and enjoy your "Christmas in a cup".)

and also because I know not everything is going to get done in time, but that LIFE will always go on! Hallelujah! :)

Okay now that I have that off my head....lets chat Christmas! My favorite holiday of all!

I told you how we got snow on Monday....but did I tell you how much my little man LOVES the snow?

well he does...or maybe he was just excited to get some fresh air like his mommy!

I know my child needs some proper wellies for the snow....don't worry we didn't stay out long! :)

you better believe I documented every second of his first real snow fall-- this stuff melted about an hour after we took these pictures....

he is such a ham!

I've also been wanted to make some silhouette art for a LONG time but the process seemed daunting- turns out it's super-de-duper easy!

That reindeer silhouette was just leftover wrapping paper- I cut out and framed! Also very easy.

More easy- I cut out letters from glitter paper (my new favorite obsession) and hung them on some of our frames....so fun!

and of course, you know my little cloche find got some glittery holiday love too!

I'd show you a picture of our Christmas tree- which I so lovingly put together but the bottom foot of it is all torn apart. Cash has been helping me "re-arrange" if you know what I mean. I always know he's been into the Christmas tree when I see silver glitter around his lips and on his little hands from him attempting to fit the Christmas bulb (don't worry they are plastic....did you know plastic bulbs actually BOUNCE! uh hello new bouncing bulb ball!) into his mouth.

Okay-- enough rambling from me! How's your holiday decorating coming? are you done yet?
