{friday findings}

Happy Friday Friends!

I'm officially in vacation mode already (we leave Tuesday!) to head down to Mississippi to see Uncle Cole.  We all can't wait.  None of us have ever been to Mississippi or Louisiana before so it should be a fun experience for all of us!  Hoping to hit up magazine street, eat a King Cake, and take in some of the sights & sounds of New Orleans.

I'm wrapping up the week with things I'm loving::

Zulilly had tiny toms on sale this week! I ordered a pair for my little guy!

They were discounted and even with shipping they are still cheaper than buying in person with taxes. And lord knows I'm all about easy on - easy off toddler shoes! ;)  Crossing my fingers they fit with roverboy's chubby feet...

.....................................................................................

I saw this on House of Fifty this morning, how unbelievable is this Jay Jeffer's bathroom?  I know I'm a total girly-girl, but I could get on board with this masculine space.  Are those spotlights not the coolest things you've ever seen?

...............................................................................................

I picked up this box kit last week in the baking aisle ::

Auntie Anne's pretzels just sounded good and let's be honest...I'm not always good at "from scratch" recipes.  And we don't have an Auntie Anne's anywhere near us (this is a good thing...). They were seriously amazing, and surprisingly not difficult or time consuming at all. I will definitely be picking these up again for my next soft pretzel craving!

....................................................................................

From pretzels to shampoo.
(I know I'm so random...)

But upon reading a few good reviews I picked up a bottle of suave keratin shampoo & conditioner a few weeks ago.  I was quite skeptical because I have previously always used salon shampoo not drug store brands.  I don't know why but I've always had the mentality of drug store shampoo as being not good.  I don't know why, but after buying some expensive salon shampoo & conditioner that I was less than happy with.  I needed a cheap solution asap! This is where the suave shampoo came in.  It was 3 bucks a bottle (cheapest shampoo I have ever used...) and I thought I'd give it a few weeks before writing my own review because let's be honest I wasn't expecting great results.  But so far, I love this stuff.  I don't plan on buying expensive shampoo ever again.  So for anyone looking for a cheap but great shampoo this is your stuff! It also is lower in sulfates than most shampoos which I feel quite good about.

Last but not least, I discovered a new favorite clothing company to follow (as if I need another one on my radar...), Guru New York.  They make the cutest tunic dresses I have ever seen!  I'm trying to come up with a great reason to buy one of these for spring and summer! Aren't the color combinations so fun?!

This one even comes in my very favorite color combination:: navy + pink.

{my boy}

The other day I randomly pulled out my camera. I've found I usually capture my favorite images on days when nothing special is going on.  It seems less stressful when you aren't trying to get a good image and you are just trying to capture your child in their element, praying the picture is in focus! :)

It's not perfect (I am such a rookie with my camera) but it's more about my boy than it is about the quality of the picture.

I love him. his messy nap hair, notched ears, innocent little eyes.  What a blessing he is to our lives. I thank God everyday for giving me this little person to reflect upon daily.  I never fully understood or grasped how wide and how high God's love for us is, until I had him.  Now it all seems so clear.  There is nothing in this world he could do to make me love him any more or any less.

{things i love:: brass plumbing fixtures}

Nothing makes my heart pitter patter faster than brass plumbing fixtures... I'm not talking about that cheap builder grade stuff from the 80's/90's.

I'm talking about the real deal. brass...
the stuff that patinas over time.
 the stuff that gets better with age....ya know like wine.

I now love brass. There, I said it. I also love exposed plumbing in bathrooms.

In my dream home....our bathroom would look exactly like this::

The shower/tub would look like this:

rough floors, brass plumbing

So I'm sure you know I totally did cartwheels when mr.cattlebuyer toured a home for sale....this one. remember it?

And he texted me this picture below (you have to look past the hideous hunter green/burgandy tiles and weird shower rod...of course those would both have to go.)

but seriously.

hello, gorgeous plumbing fixture.  I love you.... can't take my eyes off you.

It's such a hidden gem.  Unfortunately this home needs a lot of updating & it's over-priced for all the updates it will need.

It's not exactly a starter-home...but it's so uniquely beautiful & one-of-a-kind.
 I just can't stop dreaming about it.

{design board:: formal living room}

Today I'm sharing with you another recent design project I finished up.  This formal living room is based around the homeowner's love of greige! We used a various textures, patterns, and shades of neutrals to give this living room a timeless look &  feel. The mix of classic furniture styles + a neutral color palette will make this room feel stylish many years from now! You can never go wrong with a great mix of neutrals.

Hope y'all have a wonderful Monday!

{loving the home your in:: de-clutter}

Sorry for being MIA lately...I've been going non-stop the past few days!

But I'm back today with another easy way you can easily love the home your currently living in (even if it's not your "dream" home!)

 DE-CLUTTER.  Nothing stresses people out more than clutter.  I'm not talking about every little thing you own (I do believe it's important to be surrounded by your favorite personal items & trinkets) but be selective.  You don't need to display EVERYTHING. People's biggest issue is they have too much stuff-- people don't know how to edit & polish. Thankfully interior designers can help you with this! We know what looks good and how to pair complimentary items together in a way that pleases human the eye.

You won't believe it the difference it will make in your home-- not to mention how much quicker it will be for you to clean & dust! :)

Below is a great example:: Everything is displayed, but it's all put together artfully.

Bookshelves

Again- there is quite a few items on these shelves below, but it is very selective.  Give everything you own a "home".  Giving your items a place of belonging will make them feel at home and give them a purpose (even if they are just a visual element...)

*SWOOOON* worthy laundry room: sigh, i want this

Another great example:: Fun trinkets on a nightstand, but notice everything has a place.  Obviously-- this isn't a real life nightstand...no cell phone, no glass of water, ect, ect but by being selective with your objects it allows you to have room for the "everyday" stuff you need on a day-to-day basis. And if you need your nightstand to look put-together all it takes is moving a few of your everyday (not-so-pretty) items and wa-lah your nightsand looks put together instantly!

{loving the home your in:: colors}

Designer Crush: Katie Rosenfeld

Welcome back to part TWO of loving the home your in! In honor of this Valentine's week, I'm sharing with y'all some quick and easy ways you can love your own home just the way it is.  In a world where everyone is telling you to upgrade, renovate, remodel, supersize me.  Try to see that you can find joy where ever you are, if you choose to make it that way.  Okay, we all want to knock down walls, build elaborate kitchens, find more storage space, extra bedrooms....the list goes on and on.  But then there is reality:: budgets, time conflicts, and building restrictions.  But once you change your mindset and embrace where you are living right this minute, it can really change your whole perspective.

Morrison Fairfax Interiors: Adorable navy blue big boy's bedroom.

Today I'm going to be talking about colors.  In order to be entirely happy in our homes, we need to surround ourselves with colors that bring out the best in us.  One of my first questions when designing a client's home are "what colors do you like/dislike?" It's a simple question-- but colors are quite personal.  Some people love warm, bright colors and some love deep, moody hues, while other's prefer a neutral clean slate.  Everybody is drawn to something different.  Embrace the colors you like!

love this white linen living room

Don't live with the yellow kitchen the previous owners painted, if yellow isn't your color.  Believe me, surrounding yourself with the wrong colors gives you that much more reason to hate your home.  Surprisingly, paint is one of the cheapest ways to transform you home!

{loving the home your in:: flowers}

In honor of this Valentine week-- I'm dedicating my blog to LOVING the home your in! It's easy, with just a few simple things that I'm going to share with you this week.

First up. something so simple.

flowers

What woman doesn't love flowers? I  know it seems cheesy (especially this week).  But give your home some flowers.  it will bring a smile to your face.  Just browse your favorite designer interiors and I guarantee you won't see many rooms without a vase of flowers or greenery.

I'm not talking about some elaborate centerpiece...because really WHO can afford that?

What I'm talking about is a small bud vase with a sprig or two of fresh flowers.   It doesn't even have to come from a store or florist (although in these winter months it will have too...especially if you live in the midwest) But to me, one flower can have just as much impact as a few dozen.  And if they are free from your own yard...that just makes them all the better!! But for this time of year-- just go in and ask your local florist what is in season, cheapest bud available.

Put your vase somewhere you will see it, and enjoy it! Next to your kitchen sink, on your nightstand, desk, or even in the bathroom. Put it wherever it will put a smile on your face.

Here's a few of my favorite examples::

Sink bouquet

Dresser styling

marble + skirt

planking, high backsplash, antlers

serene + sophisticated

Come back tomorrow for another great "love your home" tip!

{friday findings}

Happy Friday Friends!

A rounded up some of my favorite, random, but totally share-worthy findings from this week::

I just started reading this book, so far...I'm loving it!!! And that's coming from a girl who'd rather read a laptop screen than a book page any day (i know...the internet has corrupted me).  But once I picked this book up I couldn't put it down. It's so important for everyone to live in their sweet spot in life, fulfilling the purpose that God has specifically called each of us to do. Especially as women/mothers, we get pulled in so many different ways, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle.

...................................................................................................

Speaking of mother's...have you seen this beautiful post by Ann Voskamp?!
If not, you NEED to read it.

...................................................................................................

Moving on from beautiful blog posts, to beautiful spaces... have y'all seen Bailey McCarthy's (blogger/author of peppermint bliss) home feature?

Her kitchen is totally speaking my love language.  Isn't it just perfect in every way?

Beautiful kitchen- to beautiful jewelry.  I am probably the last person on the face of the earth without a tortoiseshell piece of jewelry.  These skinny bangles are so up my alley and would make a fantastic Valentine's gift at only $26

...................................................................................................

Last but not least, after YEARS of lusting....I got myself a new pair of boots.

*rolling of eyes*

Aren't they just gorgeous?

I know. It wasn't a need (as I already have two pairs of perfectly good boots), but I've been eyeing these beauts ever since I saw them worn on Pioneer Woman & thee one and only Darby, from Fly Through Our Window. I wanted them so bad back then, but at $350.00...no can do for this momma on a budget.  I just could not justify spending that much on a pair of boots, when I already had two pairs that do the job just perfect.  But of course, a few weeks ago I was dangerously browsing ebay and much to my shocking delight a pair of gently used size 8 (MY size!) LUCCHESE BOOTS popped up for a small fraction of the full price.  I nearly died right then and there.  I was just certain I could justify my dream boots after seeing them for what I considered "dirt" cheap!

After discussing with Mr. Cattlebuyer, I frantically sold an old leather belt I had laying around in my closet, got my wad of cash and put my bid in! Of course, I was the only bidder because let's be honest, it was pure fate-- these babes were meant to mine all mine!

My feet have been wearing them everyday and the best part is-- they were pre-owned so someone else broke them in for me (we all know that's the worst part of wearing brand spankin' new boots).

My feet have been thanking me ever since they arrived.

Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!

{BIG brother's e-design board}

Happy Thursday Everyone!

This week I'm sharing back to back e-design boards! I'm updating my portfolio with my design work, so beware, there will be more design board posts like this in the future! Hopefully y'all enjoy seeing these, as much as I enjoy creating them for my clients.  This really is my passion, and every time I share a board, I feel like I am opening up my heart for everyone to see....scary and exciting all at the same time!

Anyways, I thought it was only fitting since I shared big sister's room design a few days ago, I better share big brother's room too!

We used a fun mix of patterns and styles to give big brother a unique look all his own. The entire room design was inspired by this precious doggy print wallpaper.  Isn't it just so sweet!? I know this is something that eventually be out-grown, but we carefully choose timeless, classic furniture and textile pieces, to compliment the wallpaper-- so even after the accent wallpaper comes down the room can easily work well down the road with just a few simple changes.

{BIG girl bedroom}

Happy Tuesday!

I'm excited to share with y'all a fun design board I just wrapped up, a BIG girls bedroom.  Time to move out the crib and baby toys, this room is all about being a BIG girl.  We stuck with a soft & airy color palate using:: pale pinks, mint greens, and dusty blues.   I'm thrilled with how it all came together:  it's feminine and youthful, yet has some more sophisticated & elegant touches that will transition well over time as this young girl's tastes and interests change.

{alphabet poster}

Being a mother is the most rewarding job in the world.  I think any mom can agree with me.

I love teaching my little guy everything he needs to know before he goes out into this crazy world.

And if I am able to combine learning + good design/art I am more than happy to do so being the design junkie I am.

Of course, being at this his young age we are starting with the basics.

ie. the alaphabet

This darling poster caught my eye (and my little one's) immediately....aren't the illustrations just so whimsical and sweet?

Can't wait to order this for his future big boy room!
