{thursday: random things i like}

Totally random post with no purpose what so ever. Enjoy!

Manners.

Why are they so hard to come by these days?

You better believe, my boy will respond with all of thee above when necessary. You can thank living in West Texas for that! Someday his future wife will thank me, I'm just sure of it.

Sperry for J.Crew. I die.

Are these not the cutest sperry's you've ever SEEN? I'm dying to get my hands on a pair for this spring and summer!

The perfect comfy shirt to get me through the rest of this dreaded winter.  It's casual but not frumpy....perfect!

This darling baby clothing line makes me want to get sewing again. Aren't their clothes just precious?

{home office}

Now THIS is my idea of a home office...ton's of work space to spread out, lots of organized storage, a big bulletin board for inspirational ideas, a comfy chair, & big windows with lots of natural light.

All necessities of a great office in my opinion.

And they just all so happen to be executed perfectly in this office space below.

A girl can dream right?
What would your ideal office include?

{pano photos}

I still have this bathroom image from Country Living Magazine saved in my old "inspirations binder" (pre-pinterest days) from long ago.  I just couldn't ever throw it away when I was going through the great purge last spring before our move. And when I saw the digital image on pinterest recently it brought back my feelings for this simple yet very charming space.

 The clean white walls filled with old black & white panoramic photos gives this space some much needed interest.   Not to mention a fun unexpected twist...for an otherwise rather boring space don't you think?

This just goes to show you, you don't have to leave your bathroom walls bare.  Add some pano photos to add some horizontal eye candy.

{the perfect desk}

I've been on the hunt for the perfect desk...for well...forever (it feels like.)

The problem is I have my "perfect desk" created in my mind. But I have yet to find it in real life.   I'm envisioning something old (insert: hard to find).  And I don't want to spend a fortune (insert: even harder to find.)

My slightly picky stipulations::

1. Doesn't need to be in good shape, just good enough to hold up to everyday use. I plan on painting it so finish doesn't matter.
2. Needs a few drawers for storage.
3. Needs to have a finished back (in case I ever decide to float the piece.)
4. Must be a comfortable height for typing/writing
5.  Must be large enough to hold plenty of stuff, but not too wide that it's going to be obtrusive if I  need to butt it up against a wall.

(if any of you own something as described above...please contact me immediately I will gladly take it off your hands!) :)

Now, let me share with you the image that inspired me.
It's nothing too special, fairly simple actually.  I love the key holes, size, drawers, legs, finish, everything.

Since I'm on a time crunch, and tight budget.  My new plan instead of scouring craigslist every day is to finish my own piece.  It may be a crazy idea...but at this point I'm willing to do just about anything to get the look I want.

So here is my solution::

Unfinished console/desk + coat of paint + new brass hardware.

Moral of the story:: you can't always find the "perfect" piece so sometimes you just have to improvise.

works for me.

{day dreaming}

 I know they say you shouldn't put the cart before the horse, but lets be real. I'm a dreamer. Especially when it comes to homes and I just can't stop thinking about this gorgeous home.

Its a 1930's fixer upper. But isn't it just perfect in every sense?

Property Photo

This is what sold me on this property.....the stairwell.

Property Photo

Of course, it needs some interior help (ie. the wood paneling you see in the photo above, and some kitchen updating and carpeting and yadda yadda yadda...the list goes on) but I just happen to know the perfect woman for the job! ;)

It doesn't come with anything accept a backyard (no acreage... or barn... or anything slightly country what so ever...) but I'm keeping this house in the running based on it's true potential.

What do y'all think? You likey?

{snow day}

Happy Monday Friends!

 We got a fresh coating of snow in the mid west this morning...so my rover boy and I spent some of the morning outside catching snowflakes.  It was perfect.

For those of you who have read this blog for a while, you may have noticed I've slowly over the past year have cut back on sharing personal pictures.  I hate that, but I've had this calling in my heart that maybe being a little more private is a good thing in this day in age?  It's not like my parents shared my baby photos with a world of strangers...thus maybe I shouldn't be sharing photos of my child either? I don't know...I still haven't quite figured out a good balance. And because my boy doesn't have an opinion of his own (should he ever not want his photo shared of course I wouldn't do so...) But occasionally, here and there, I may slip in some photos of my sweet boy because I think he's a pretty cute subject to talk about!  :) I'm also going to be better about watermarking any private personal photos, because that goes along with my fear of sharing my family with the world, I don't want someone stealing my photos either. That creeps me out.  Not that anyone would do such a thing....but you just never know in this day in age!

So after saying all of that, here's a few pictures I snapped of my boy this morning.  I edited using pioneer woman's free actions (which I LOVE!)

Thanks for letting me share my boy with y'all.  Stay warm and have a wonderful Monday!

{masculine library}

Happy Wednesday Friends!

I'm happy to report, I just finished up working on my first design board of 2013! For this project we needed to keep the homeowner's original leather sofa, but I happily worked in pair of beautiful sage green upholstered arm chairs to bring in a fresh touch of color to the space.  The new arm chairs pair perfectly with the more contemporary metal bookshelves & unique watercolor artwork.  New lighting, pillows, rugs, and accessories bring the room to life!  Camel browns, Navy blues, and soft sage greens & grays create the color palate for this cozy and masculine men's library retreat.

{monday randoms}

Happy Monday Y'all!

Mondays are always a little random for me....gathering up loose ends from the week before.  Cleaning up from the weekend.  Tackling things on my updated to-do list.

It never ends...and sometimes I just need a good random post to clear my wandering thoughts.

First off...I've been meaning to make these "energy bites" for months.  I finally remembered to pick up the ingredients over the weekend, and let me just say.....they are nearly gone already.  they are THAT good.  Best snack ever.  I can't say whether I was really more "energized" or not...but they sure do taste wonderful and surely they must be better than snacking on a bag of chips or a handful of skittles...right?

Here's the recipe I used::

1c. oatmeal
1/2 c peanut butter
1/3 c honey
1 c coconut flakes
1/2 c ground flaxseed
1/2 c mini chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla

just mix ingredients all together and make into round balls.

easy peasy and so yum!

Speaking of healthy choices,

 2012 was a big year for me, as I stopped buying my usual weekly 24 case of diet mt. dew.  I made the decision late summer to give up my daily diet soda caffeine habit and I couldn't be happier! Believe me I was a total addict for YEARS...as in I couldn't be happy without it! Seriously. it was really getting bad.  And on top of it all my little guy was getting to the age this summer at where he recognized what a can of soda looked like...I didn't like that.  I know eventually he will want to drink soda on occasion.  But I didn't want to raise him thinking it was normal for people to drink  3 or 4 diet soda's a day (yes that was my usual for some time...) I didn't want to set a bad example for him.  I still don't.  Thus, my decision to give up my bad habit.

I recently switched over to green tea.  I love finding new teas and I love knowing I'm not feeding my body with fake sugar substitutes .

My current fave is this::

Lipton Green Tea, Mixed Berry, Tea Bags, 20Count Boxes (Pack of 6)

Okay now that that's off my chest...

Can we just talk about my favorite lotion eva! Let me preface by saying that I used to be a total bath and body girl.  I'd find one or two scents I liked and stuck with them for years.  But recently I've been trying to be more conscious of what I'm putting on/in my body.  Reading the labels on products.

It's astonishing/disgusting the amount of ingredients go into these health and beauty products.  Most of which is man-made chemical crap that most normal people cannot pronounce.

Thus, after doing a little research I've decided to make the switch to more healthy/natural  alternatives.  Little change, but the peace of mind I gain from knowing I'm not smearing chemicals into my body gives me great joy.

My fave::

The scent is not overpowering like most vanilla scents...its a very subtle smell which I love (I'm not usually a vanilla scent girl...).  And it feels like heaven on your hands.  Seriously....so good for your dry winter skin! (No, I'm not sales lady, but this stuff is so good I can't help but talk about it!) I also made the switch for my nugget boy-- he uses the arbonne baby lotion and it too, is amazing!

Now I need to find better options for all my other healthy/beauty products! If you know of any particular brands you are fond of, let me know! I'd love to hear about your products as well.

Moving on... to my blog.  Did you notice my new nav bar last week?

I am tweaking my blog a bit for a more user friendly/visually pleasing appeal.  This is taking time for me since I'm learning all of this css code stuff myself.  I love knowing that I have the power to change/edit my blog when/if I please (you all know how fickle I am...).  Santa got me an updated version of photoshop (CS5) woo hoo! so that is helping me in my decision to learn how to do all this web stuff myself.  So, be prepared, things may be changing/ edited daily.  If you have any advice or suggestions please let me know as well.  This may take me an entire year to get to the end "look" I'm going after, but eventually I will get done!

Also. last but not least I have a few very exciting design boards to show you in the upcoming weeks! Can't wait to share, hope you all have an awesome Monday! I'm off to go tackle my to-do list!

{ordinary to extrordinary }

Love when a designer takes something ordinary and makes it extraordinary!

For example::

image via Jen Chu Design

How genius is adding a simple row of nail heads to the ends of white shelves? Wouldn't these be amazing on a bookshelf? The nail heads make such a graphic element and really transform the otherwise plain jane shelves into something special.  Love that! Totally stealing this idea for future use!

Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!

{color crush: pink + mint}

Happy Wednesday Friends!

Something about January always makes me crave bright spring-like colors....today I'm feeling especially inspired today by Caitlin Wilson's impeccable color schemes.

My current favorite::

Mint Green, Gold, Pink, and Navy.

4 colors that I predict will continue to be hot colors in fashion and interiors well into 2013 and beyond!

I love, love, love Caitlin's home.....but in case your husband is like mine (a pink sofa would never fly at our house!) you can always steal this color scheme to dress yourself! The more layers & colors the better...

I'm really loving this necklace below::

hot pink, navy, mint

The j.crew top is totally classic and in case you missed purchasing one last spring....I saw jcp has a knock off very similar for less than $20!
p.s. Wish my hair looked this chic when in a knotted pony!

Love this pink with mint.

Also a cute look that would be easy to replicate!

Pink, navy + mint

Now don't be surprised if you see me in public sportin' a similar color scheme....I can't help but be inspired!

{seeing spots}

I love keeping up with trends...although I don't follow all of them personally.  I still love seeing what's hot!

It seems for 2013 spots are still trending.

black and white. Dalmatian print. dots. whatever you call them.

they are everywhere in home d├ęcor and fashion

My parents have a Dalmatian (you don't see them much anymore...) so I can't help but think of their dog "Pepper" when I see rooms done up in spots.

I've shown this image below at least once before...love the eclectic mix of styles and furnishings.

Since the black and white pattern  is so BOLD, a little goes a long way..
throw pillows might be a good option for most people.

{warm wood tones}

Yay, I don't know about y'all but I'm sure glad to have reached Friday. I've been battling an awful head-throbbing cold since Monday. Actually technically since last week (Christmas day) ,which is when nugget boy started showing symptoms.  Every mom knows when her baby is sick...she is too. I knew it was just a matter of time and sneezes before I caught the bug. It's been brutal, it even put me horizontal on the sofa for a few days...and that is definitely NOT my personality or usual speed. It was that bad.  Thankfully I am getting my energy back today.  Not quite 100% but getting closer.

Today I just feel like admiring antiques with warm, rich wood tones. Between the cold weather and sicknesses going around I just want to stay home and be cozy.  And to me, nothing says "cozy" better than warm rich wood tones.

My inspiration pieces:

Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!

{design boards x2}

Happy Thursday Blog Friends!

I'm finally getting around to posting these fun design boards.  Last year (now that's weird to say...) I worked with a fabulous client on a few rooms for her newly built home.

First, we worked on her open-concept great room.  We stuck with lots of warm neutral on neutral tones with touches of soft gold accents.

I also helped with her newly designed relaxing master bedroom retreat.  We stuck with the homeowner's love of soft tone on tone textures & colors, but threw in some mixed metal finishes to add a warm ambiance to the room.

Both rooms were so enjoyable to work on! I love when I can help design one room for a client, let alone two! And of course, I'm always happy to make a new "virtual" friend through it all! I also have to put a plug in for my wonderful client friend, as she is the talented photographer behind Heather Munson Photography! Please check out her work-- and if you are in Kansas and need some photographs taken, definitely look her up! :)

Thanks again to all my clients- past and present! It's my joy to get to help you all with your interior design needs!

{2013 goals}

My goals for 2013.

None of them are too complicated.  Most are quite simple actually.

Can't wait to work on accomplishing all of these in 2013.... it's going to be a great year!

Happy 2013 Friends!
