{saying goodbye to 2013}

Happy New Years Eve!

Another year savored. Taking the time today to reflect on our year...2013 sure has been good to us! I have to admit now looking back... 2012 was a trying year for me...we were in limbo with Mr.Cattlebuyer's official territory so we moved back home from Texas to be closer to family, we lived in a too-small-cramped apartment, and Mr.Cattlebuyer and I lived apart Monday-Friday while he was on the road traveling for work. I single parented. It kind of sucked.  Not going to lie. It was trying on so many different levels.  I felt defeated most days.

2013 started off very similarly to 2012...waiting. limbo. where will life take us. defeated. What I thought was going to be a blessing/peace filled year started off exactly the same as the year before. semi-stressful. single parenting. life on the road. it seemed like we would never reach our final destination.  put on a happy face and make it work. people must have thought we were crazy.

But sure enough right around the beginning of Summer...we got the official word of permanency in our life.  Mr. Cattlebuyer accepted his final territory (after some back and forth between two locations).  It really felt like God had prepared us for where we finally ended up.  The puzzle pieces of life all came together. What I thought was going to be a stress filled/defeated year was anything but that.  We found a house we loved, Mr. Cattlebuyer loves his territory, and I've found some time do my design work.  It started off slow...but I have to say I think we are going out with a bang! ( Sorry I am just now sharing this...this blog has always been my "happy" place. I try to always keep this a positive outlet for my life....but I also want it to be real. And this has been the real roller coaster ride we have been on the past 2.5 years.)  2013 was a year many of our dreams came true.  We were reunited as a family (no more traveling for work) and we bought our first house!  It was  year of blessings visibly seen.

Here are some of my favorite photos from 2013:

Catching snowflakes in the park..

Pondering thoughts...

Our fun trip to Gulfport, Mississippi to see Uncle Cole!

And our brief visit to New Orleans (with a toddler in tow...what were we thinking!?!).

We visited the zoo this summer...

And I verified in my mind that yes, my husband and son are pretty much duplicates of each other.

we played in the sand:

And visited the farm were Silly (the horse) lived....

Old Silly passed away this year...she will be missed.

we went back the zoo.

And we bought a house and ran through sprinklers in our own backyard.

and suddenly right before our eyes this fall, our little guy grew up and turned 3! We celebrated with  cupcakes and a backyard party!

and in October we happily welcomed Uncle Cole back from Afghanistan!

we hit up the pumpkin patch!

and we spent hours enjoying the beautiful fall weather on the hike n' bike.

all in all it was such a wonderful blessing filled year! Here's to 2014, may it be another year of blessings both big and small.  May we enjoy the small quiet moments just as much as the momentous ones. May we see God's goodness working at all times...in the times where the blessings are hard to see and the years where blessings visibly abound! Hoping you all enjoy your last day of 2013!

{these are a few of my favorite things}

Just dropping in to share with you some of my favorite treats I received this Christmas!  My Mother in law got me my favorite blanket ever.  Its super soft and the herringbone patterning is so classic. I'm using this in combination with our white duvet on our bed and it's really a fresh look! Thanks Sherri! :)

Target Threshold Organic Blanket

Hunter's boots

Mr. Cattlebuyer treated me to some new boots. I've wanted a pair of these for YEARS but I didn't have a real good reason for wanting a pair.  Well now that we purchased a home with a detached garage...I declared I needed appropriate boots when I go tromping out in the elements (I also got a pair of fleece socks to line the inside which make them so much warmer!).  I actually plan on wearing these babies year round but shhh...don't tell anyone.  Mr.C originally got me the hunter green color but I really wanted the Moss green and I'm so glad I switched. The moss green is so pretty and guess what....they are on sale on Zappos right now! Win-Win.

Vera Bradly hanging organizer

Mr. Cattlebuyer also got me this hanging organizer in clementine pattern.  I needed this so bad for travel.  I has already came in so handy and the patterning is so cheerful! I will definitely get my money out of this guy!

burts bee's lotion

Burt's bee's products never disappoint, but this lotion is really amazing! Perfect for dry winter skin and best of all...it doesn't leave that burning sensation on your hands like some lotions do!

Smith & Hawken® Boxwood Topiary in Ceramic Pot; 16" height

Lastly, I picked up a pair of these darling little Smith & Hawken boxwood trees for my kitchen window.  I used some of my Christmas money and they were on clearance so I justified my unnecessary but oh-so-cute purchase.... The ceramic pot is actually a creamy white (for some reason this photo makes it look greenish).  I'm going to leave cuties these out year round!

{christmas morning magic}

 I hope y'all enjoyed your holiday celebrations! Santa paid a visit to our house and I tried to capture the emotions of the morning (it's been too long since I've had my camera out!). This was such a magical morning for us....our first Christmas at our new house.  We actually had to wake our little man up (he stayed up a little too late on Christmas eve) and we wasted no time before uncovering all the treasures under the tree.

My childhood stocking....

The suspense....

the bed head kills me....

 "Santa gave me an apple momma!"  (a tradition....we always had an apple or orange in the foot of our stocking!)

Monster trucks bring the BIGGEST smiles.

Somehow Santa magically fit a train table down our chimney...it was a real Christmas miracle!

I'll be back again soon...we are off to celebrate one last late Christmas celebration with our family! Enjoy your last weekend of 2013!

{joy}

Well, I didn't get any of my camera photos downloaded (no surprise... sorry family!), so these clips from my phone will have to do.  I must say...we have really made this a month full of fun Christmas activities. I love December. I wish I could always be as intentional with our time as I have been this month.  Not that everything has been perfect (I definitely dropped the ball in a few areas and you better believe I still have a few gifts I have yet to wrap!) but all in all I feel so much better this year about our schedule. I loved the relaxed feeling we've had this year.  I didn't stress about decorating every.single.inch.of our house and I didn't do any major projects that required too much work.  We made sugar cookies...and I let roverboy decorate without stressing over spilled sprinkles, we drove around and looked at Christmas lights, played in the snow, wrapped gifts, put money in the red kettle at the grocery store, mailed our christmas cards, opened the store-bought advent calender daily, dropped off santa's letter in the mail box at the post office, delivered treats to our neighbors, and we read the polar express 1000 times.  Some days "elfie" our elf didn't move for DAYS. Our tree only looked "good" for the first hour it was up, then my little guy re-arranged to his hearts content and I've been vacuuming glitter ever since.  I decorated our stairwell with garland then realized a week or two in it was dripping sap onto my woodwork as I cursed myself for using "real" garland this year.

But guess what. it was magical and we made really special memories.  I'm sure we will edit our activity list as as the years go by and life changes, but I love that this season hasn't felt rushed or stressful in any way but yet we have done so many memorable things.

store bought treats for our friends

we did some freezer paper stenciling.

and hot glued our gingerbread house

and mailed our Christmas cards out...

and in the end, it has all been really special to us, but the real gift has already been given.  he came to us in a dirty stable. in a town that had no room....
a prince of peace. wonderful counselor. everlasting father. an all knowing mighty God.

I hope you feel the love of God this Christmas and all year round.

{midwest living house tour}

Happy Sunday!

Just dropping in to share with ya'll a house that totally stood out to me this year featured in Midwest Living.  I'm so glad Midwest living Magazine is finally stepping up their game....it's about time!

This old polo clubhouse converted into a residence has a cool factor like none other I have seen.  Check out the full feature here to read about all the details of this home.

Be back tomorrow to squeeze in some more Christmas goodness!

{merry weekend}

Merry Weekend-before-Christmas!

Sorry for the silence...we've had some internet issues that have prevented me from blogging as much as I really wanted too this month.  I hate that. And I feel really silly that boring/funny Christmas wish list of mine was on my blog home page for so long! And I know I promised I'd be back with my little man's wish list....but just being honest, all he asked for this year was a "batman house" which he saw on a commercial a few weeks ago. AND great grandma already gifted it to him last weekend at an early family Christmas celebration! So whenever we've been out and strangers ask him what he's asking for for Christmas, he says...."A batman house, I already got it!".  Well okay!!! I guess Santa is going to have to get creative this year! I love the innocence of age 3....they are old enough to know about the magic of Christmas but yet young enough to not have any selfish greedy mile-long-wish-list wants.  It's perfect, I wish he could stay this age (minus the occasional tantrum...) forever! That's all to say, I'm not going to bother putting together a wish list for my little man because honestly he's already totally happy and content with the one item he asked for this year. :)

I am still going to try to post some of our Christmas decor photos if I can get them off my camera in the next few days! Meanwhile I am going to entertain you with some design boards I have recently completed! I also have a few more boards in que that I should have completed very soon now that my internet is back!

Enjoy your weekend friends!
