Roverboy's favorite Uncle Cole is deploying this coming week-- we made a little photobook on shutterfly for him to take with him overseas! So many great memories- hope he enjoys it as much as we did making it!
In honor of BLACK friday, one of my most favorite black bedrooms. I can't decide what I like more...the scalloped bedding, stripe rug, wall of bookshelves, or the wide french doors that lead out to the private patio. The simple monochromatic color palate is anything but boring. And check out that foot statue next to the armchair?! You know what they say...every good room has a conversation piece, I think that qualifies!
I hope you all scored some great deals today!
I know I had to pry myself away from the computer to fight the urge to buy every little good deal available! I'm such a sucker for a good online sale! ;) And before I leave, I just have to put a plug in for one of my favorite companies. If y'all love to dress your littles in precious smocked and monogrammed numbers be sure to check out Remember Nguyenfor 50% everything today (I stocked up for my roverboy!)
My favorite piece is this little number I snagged from their sample sale for $7!!! That's an unbelievable sale for a smocked number!
Rover boy's Uncle Cole (my brother in law) is leaving next week for his deployment. I thought it'd be fun to photograph Cash in this and send some pictures to Uncle Cole overseas!
Hope you all enjoy your weekend-- we are off to have our 3rd Thanksgiving feast tomorrow! :)
I'm off to go set up for our thanksgiving table this afternoon....I was in charge of decorating & organizing this year. It's a good thing because I feel much more comfortable decorating than I do basting a turkey!
I'm thinking I will bring my roll of kraft paper with me today, loving all these easy table scape ideas:
So thankful I never lost sight of my "dream" as a little girl....
I remember the first time my mom explained to me what exactly an interior designer is/does.... I knew that's exactly what I needed to be when I grew up. No other profession would do. I never thought twice about being an interior designer from 4-12th grade and beyond. I did have one moment in college (it was 3 am and I was building a bass wood model, my exacto knife slipped and I had just nearly cut off my pinky finger... I swear I cried and thought for certain I was going to quit school right then and there. So glad I stuck it out through all the blood (yes-lots of scars on my fingers from the exacto knife), sweat (I carried my monster of a laptop bag, book bag, art box, lunch bag, and usually a jumbo size bag from the dick blick filled with foam core/bass wood/lord knows what other supplies were needed for studio on any said day) Which explains why my back is so messed up! and tears (yes--there were lots of tears...I never got a full night of sleep in all my 4 years of college) ) But honestly, I wouldn't trade it for the world-- it really did make for the best memories! :)
I know I learned a thing or two in college (about design) and all those un-necessary electives they make you take like philosophy (?). But most of all I learned you can't give up on your dream.
If you don't make your dreams happen, no one else ever will.
The other day, Mr.Cattlebuyer and I were talking about how Thanksgiving isn't even Thanksgiving anymore, we might as well call it "Thanksmas." The fact that most retail stores have the holiday Christmas decor out right after Halloween, makes me wonder if people even decorate for Thanksgiving anymore? Target had all their fall decor on clearance weeks ago?!
Anyways-- It got me thinking... is it possible to effortlessly decorate for both Thanksgiving & Christmas using most of the same decor? I think it is! :)
Take this table setting below for example. The neutral color palate acts as a perfect base for both holidays. Add white pumpkins & green ornamental gourds for a fresh & festive fall look. And when Christmas comes around simply change out the fall decor for some dried bay leaf wreaths (like in the photo),stick a few toughs of evergreen branches and some silvery, sparkly ornaments into the centerpiece and you are set for both holidays! It's a two-for-one kind of a look which I happen to enjoy!
Now if only there was a way to make those fresh flowers last for a month... :)
I know I tell my husband every year, I don't need anything for Christmas! :) I really don't, but it sure is fun to wish...and believe me my list is LONG (too long, really...i'm kind of embarrassed) . I've found I am really good at delayed gratification when it comes to fashion items (I wait a long time to buy things (or I'm just border line cheap when it comes to my clothes, but y'all already know that!)...plus I'm a good dreamer of stylish clothes but rarely purchase quality items. Like I said, I'm cheap when it comes to my clothes....trying to change that. But my motto is:: think on it, give it time, and a month or two if you are still dreaming about said fashion item, it's probably an item you would wear time and time again. However if you forget about said item after a week or two, forget about it--wasn't worth it anyway. This works out really well on the wallet, but usually I wait too long and then the item is sold out by the time I pull the trigger to purchase....which is quite unfortunate but usually I just tell myself it wasn't worth it anyway.
However, those Tory Burch drivers I fell in LOVE with last year.... I'm still upset I didn't pull the trigger on those babies! I still dream about them. pathetic.
I will do a home decor wish list next...because Lord knows, I have a ridiculously long list of those items as well! :)
Okay without further ado my crazy LONG wish/dream fashion list:
Daniel Wellington Watch - Classic Winchester
(as if I really need another watch...but these are my signature/favorite colors: navy + pink)
Frye Women's Pressed Jackie Button Boot
(i know these look like my miss capizo vintage boots-- but really thinking these would be a nice darker brown option)
TOPSHOP Knitted Fluffy Shawl Cardi. Cozy
(i want to wear this sweater right now...)
jcrew gingham shirt
(you know my deep, overwhelming love for gingham)
jcrew excursion vest
(good golly, i would wear this all the time...)
jcrew mint cardi
(great layering piece)
alice and oliva coat
(never met a stripe I didn't like...)
Bonbon Duo Drops
(my signature colors ...I need these!)
(or these... :))
FashionABLE saba scarf in denim
(timeless piece...would look great with neutrals!)
(it's just perfection)
Okay- hope y'all don't judge me too hard on my ridiculously long wish list, I told you I am a dreamer.
So wondering, what's on your christmas fashion wish list? Stay tuned for my home decor wish list next!
Something about the winter season makes me want a velvet sofa.
Their rich, warm texture has me yearning to get one. However, velvet isn't exactly kid-friendly and we aren't exactly "velvet" kind of people. So, I guess until we are a mess-free home (aka the retirement years) I will have to put this little dream of mine on hold. Just Monday I spent 3 hours cleaning up an entire bottle of brightest RED nail polish I own from our carpet....lovely. (yes, i take responsibility as this was partially my fault for turning my back on rover boy for 1 minute as he was using the nail polish bottles as maracas/drumsticks.)
Anyways, until I can have my very own. I will stick to admiring these beauties online:
Remember a few weeks ago when I shared this post with you....with all due respect, crate and barrel's has come down a bit, it's currently on sale for $999.99, down from $1599.99! But still hard to justify.
Sometimes patientlywaiting really does pay off in extra savings for you! Curious to know...do you like buying the real deal even if you have to pay a little more, or are you cool with buying a knockoff/dupe to save a few bucks?
Winter is closing in on us and while everything is slowly turning to brown (or shades there of..) I still crave greenery inside the home. Of course with the holidays coming up it should be easy, but what do you do after the holidays are over....well here is your guide to some fun indoor/outdoor plants & flowers that can take you from January to December!
Love these for their low maintenance. All you need is a cool pot and some soil and you are set.
Classic. Great for any room in the home. You can buy these just about anywhere, home depot, whole foods, or your local nursery.
Classic, not to be confused with an ivy topiary (blah, were those really in style in the 90's?). Great for framing mantels and windows.
Great for softening spaces, dressers, end tables, empty corners.
great for it's unique texture. Looks good alone, works great for filling in those bare spaces on window sills or end tables.
Fiddle leaf fig trees
Totally trendy right now, but such a show stopper. Great for tall rooms and softening empty corners
So fun for the winter holidays, plant your bulbs now!
Meyer lemon trees (only bring in for the winter)
A great unique alternative tree and you get the reap the rewards with free lemons.
My favorite for indoor and outdoor. Totally classic. Great for filling in those empty spaces: underneath console tables or empty fireplaces
Super fun in the spring, always looks great in unique pot. Perfect for those small spaces that need a touch of green.
So did I forget anything....what would you add to this list? I'm certainly no plant expert (I'v killed a few in my day....), but that it's something I'd love to learn more about and get better at someday! My mom has the best green thumb ever, hoping someday she can teach me a thing or two.
No talking about politics over here today. We all want a better future for our kids than what we had growing up and honestly at the end of the day, no matter who our President is tomorrow, Jesus is still KING! He will reign over us today, yesterday, and forever. And I find great peace in knowing that truth in my heart! :)
Everybody wants to know what the "it" colors for next year will be...
well wait no longer. here it is.
I must say, I'm loving this watercolor paint representation by Michelle Mospens. It truly is a piece of work in itself. And if you need any custom stationary, thank you cards, or party invitations. Check out her work. She is so talented!
