{row, row, row your boat}

I was so excited when I saw this jaw literally dropped in amazement!
How awesome is that upside down row boat?

I love when designers know the rules of design, but more importantly know when to break the rules of design!  This room is obviously beautiful but what makes it go from just a pretty room to a jaw dropping wowzer is that boat.

I always think you should do one thing un-expected in a room....maybe hanging a boat upside down is a big step for you?
Instead try little things like creating a focal wall using a bold paint color, or maybe put in a quirky thrifted accessory on a bookshelf, or use a over sized piece of furniture in a small room.  Do something you "normally" wouldn't do...step outside the box and try something just might find it may become the focal piece of the whole room!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

{subway tile}

One of my favorite things about interior design is finding elements of design that are timeless....things that simply never going out of style.

subway tile is one of those things, it looks gorge in the bathroom, in the kitchen, in the mud room, in the laundry room.  It can be used virtually anywhere, at any time, in any room, with any style.

what's not to l-o-v-e ?

the subway tile is the perfect backdrop for this fabulous soaker tub!

I'd learn to cook if I had a pretty subway tile backsplash to look at while I'm learning to chop, dice, saute, and broil.

again, another beautiful backsplash

or forget the backsplash all together, just cover the entire wall with subway tiles!

pretty bathroom. pretty tiles. pretty you.

ummm...maybe what I said about cooking can apply to doing the laundry as well? I'd have no problem folding clothes in this room!

Hope y'all have a fabulous Thrusday! We are officially on operation wedding over here, less than a month to go now! Counting down the days....and if you don't hear from me as frequently this month, you know why! I'm cutting out {by hand}over 200 two-sided programs, if I hadn't lost my mind before I will now. I can't wait to share with you all our wedding dets! :)

{wiww} week 23

okay so i'm a failure at wiww this week....i'm ashamed.

i swear i wore a cute outfit to church....but i never got a picture snapped.

sooo i did some digging and I found this picture I never shared to y'all from our shower this summer:

black tank: new york and co.
turquoise earrings: cowgirl cottage
black wedges: payless

and just for good laughs....i'm featuring mr.cattlebuyer (haha!) this week since he's in the picture too!

 Ralph Lauren shirt: dillards
cinch jeans: the fort
belt: the fort
Black Anderson Beans: western store in amarillo...don't remember the name!

{pardon me}

pardon my silence....
we had another computer crisis in our home last week.

but i'm happy to report the computer is up and running (who knows for how long!?)
but i'm here and i'm thankful we didn't have to shell out $$ for a new computer!

mr.cattlebuyer gave me strict orders to back everything up and clean up the hard that's what i'm doing tonight!  However, I came across a few images I couldn't bear to part with, without showing y'all first....
 sooo without further ado. here are some gorgeous rooms!

i love a pretty neutral room...l-o-v-e that upholstered headboard! Also, notice the drapery rods hung above the actual window? This is a fantastic tip that heightens your space and makes your windows appear larger than what they really are...and who doesn't want big picture windows?

This beauty was supposed to be in my blog about slipcovered dining chairs....but somehow i forgot it?!
I don't see a single thing i don't like in this kitchen/dining area!

love the scalloped edges of that bedskirt...

you know i love me some stripes.....and this gallery wall is perfect-o!

i die over the dark trim on these paned windows...and that couch is on my dream wish list!
okay the momma & daughter duo are pretty cute too! :)

Hope you week is off to a great start!

please meet...

daddy bear and baby bear.

my two favorite boys...there is something very special about a father and a son.

these two will crawl all throughout the house, nugget fits perfectly under chance's arms.  sometimes i'll sneak away to the bed room and I can just about guarantee every single time these two will come strollin in shortly after they realize I'm missing from the living room or kitchen.

(i love my boys)

Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday....come see me tomorrow for WIWW!

Definitely something to think about! Are you all watching HGTV's Design Star tonight?!
What do you think? Do you have a favorite designer?

I can't help but like the Blonde designer named "Leslie" from Texas!  She's pretty spunky and fun....seems like she does pretty good work too (although, I wasn't over-ly impressed with any of the room last week)

Anyways, I hope y'all have a great Monday! The plumber is coming to fix our shower door that fell of the hinges 2 weeks ago.....we really need that door back because ever since then nugget seems to think he needs to get in the shower all. the. time.

Black walls.....un-expectedly beautiful!
Probably not for everyone, or every house....but if you have a room with lots of natural light and it's big enough to not feel like a dark cave, black walls are an amazing option for you!

Clearly the Black wall is balanced with a lot of White...which creates the perfect contrast in this environment. The light wide plank flooring, white ceiling, and the open and air-y concept of this room is what make the black wall feel "pretty" instead of "Gothic and dark."  I had a professor in college who said if you want to highlight a design feature pair it with the exact opposite so that the feature becomes a defined focal point.  Fortunately, I've found this rule to be true, time and time again.  Thanks Professor Hinchman!

Of course, you know I'm also loving the traditional furniture and the gorgeous architectural features.  The pops of chartreuse green scattered throughout the room is what makes the room feel complete.

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

One of my favorite easy summer decorating tips is to buy some slips for your dining room dress yourself, so why not dress your chairs in something pretty too!

By putting a slipcover over your traditional dining room chair, it gives you that relaxed summer-y quality that everyone loves.   Plus, a slipcover is not only pretty, it's practical and functional because it protects your chairs from spills.  If one of your guests happen to dribble on the slip just throw it in the laundry and you are good as sweat! And lord knows...we all need easy in summer!

Here are a couple pretty pleated slips:

and of course just your basic slip over an armed chair...but how about those pillows? Nothin' says "make yourself at home" like putting pillows on your dining chairs!

again, another simple, yet pretty slipcover:

and since you all know how much I love about a pretty slip with a ruffled skirt?! Gorgeous.

Hope you all have a relaxing weekend!

For this fun {teenage} design board, I had the intention of designing for a young, equestrian-loving, teen girl.  The mix of the ruffles with the leather...with a little vintage and rustic mixed in! I'm pictureing the walls a light grey with the turquoise and yellow and carmel colors being the main accents in the room.  I threw in a few colorful items like the floral lampshade (anthropologie!) and the jones design company print (love this one!) to add a little spunk to the room.  The hint of equestrian comes in the art....the horse gesture drawing (adore!) and the horse head book ends.  The headboard is made of salvaged barn-wood and  two wire-form light fixtures will flank the bed on either side above the nightstands.   The feminine-chic flair is added with the ruffle-y turqoise bedding and the two beautiful upholstered stools which will sit at the end of the bed.  The vintage inspired yellow lamp is the perfect "pop" of color which will sit beside the leather butterfly chair and create a perfect spot for curling up with a good book!

This was such a fun design board to work on...I can't wait to show what else i've been up to lately!

Happy Thursday Friends!

Love, Your Dad

Almighty God

Cash Austin,
I found this email and knew I had to share it with special you are to daddy and I, but most importantly how special you are to God.

9 months ago you came into the world and we have been dancing, skipping, laughing, enjoying, and embracing every second of this first year of your life.  How fast the days have gone since we sat in that hospital room with you for the first time counting your toes and picking out each other's features in you.  You have grown into quite the little character since then, we love discovering something new about you everyday.  Of course all parent's think their babies are cute....we are completely smitten by you! I don't think a single day go by that either me or daddy don't say something about how lucky we are to have you in our lives.

You have grown from that innocent newborn infant into a spirited little talkin', crawlin', happy-go-lucky little man.  You have been getting into everything lately, you LOVE to explore....and when you explore you leave a little trail of things behind you as you go....torn paper, toys, empty bottles, name it! We know your favorite "hiding" spots are between the washer and dryer, in the hallway by the vent, and in our bedroom on daddy's side of the bed! You love to pull everything out of your toy box and play with each item for about 15 seconds, until you throw it beside you and move on the to the next item.  You have to put EVERYTHING into your mouth...we have to be very careful with what we have laying around now! When you get excited over something...whether it be food, a toy, or mommy and daddy, you bounce up and down and fling your arms in excitement!

You are going to bed at about 10ish and you wake up around 7ish....since you are teething you've been waking up earlier than normal.  You have 4 teeth coming down on top and you have 2 on the bottom.
We are already missing that "gummy" smile of yours....but looking forward to your "toofer" smile already! :)

You have taken a liking to food....stuff you once spit out, you are now enjoying! Your new favorite baby food is: banana/plum/grape baby is purple-ish in color and so are you by the time you finish eating your container of food! You have also been enjoying some "big people" we will give you little bits of our food and you LOVE having what we have.  You open your mouth like a little birdie and we drop a little crumb into your mouth while you suck on it until you decide to swallow it and open up for another crumb! You put your little bottom lip into your top lip when you suck...mommy thinks that is the cutest thing in the whole world :)

You have your 9 month well baby check up at the end of the month and we will take you to get weighed and measured again.  We have been recording your measurements in your baby book since you were born, its amazing how much you have grown since then! We are so grateful you are such a healthy and happy baby!

Lately, we've been laying you down to sleep with a bottle in your crib at nap time and night time....which means I no longer get to rock you as often as I used too, so I make a point to rock you in the mornings and sometimes in the evenings....I love that special time we have together.

We celebrated your 1st Independence day by going to the local parade and then going to our church's baptism party.  You were such a little trooper...everyone at church loves on you like you were their own.

We also got you your 1st tree swing, you love to be in the tree swinging back and forth.  We usually go out there in the mornings and swing because it is a little cooler outside then...sometimes you swing yourself to sleep.  You love to watch the cars go by the house and see the birds bouncing around the lawn.  We still do our daily park walks, and you of course, still enjoy those too! You pretty much just love to be outside all the time.

Cash, we thank God for you everyday, that he created you for us to enjoy.  You were formed by his hands into your precious self and we cannot wait to see all that he has planned for your life.  You are our everything...there isn't anything we wouldn't do for you.  Thank you for being such a blessing to our lives.

love you forever and always,

{wiww} week 20

In the spirit of this patriotic week, I'm posting my 4th of July attire...

 Nothin' says 'God Bless America' quite like red, white, and blue :) What is it about becoming a parent that makes all the holidays that much more special and I suddenly feel the need to make a point to wear those three symbolic colors and prance around with flags waving,  hummin' Martina McBride's Independence Day?

 I also felt the need to drag the family to the 4th of July Dairy was a huge success: Mr.Cattlebuyer and I ended up with sweaty, sticky clothes, severly parched from the heat, and plenty of pictures of Nugget at his 1st Independence Day Parade (he loved it...and of course that was ALL that mattered!)!

{taking it all in...}

{you know you are in Texas when you see this....}

{big man in a little semi}

{my personal favorite....the cute old men in their classic cars cruizin' in the parade with their flags wavin'! }

We celebrated {sans fireworks} due to our severe drought conditions here in West Texas....but that doesn't mean there wasn't plenty of patriotism

dress: f21
red flats: payless
red peony pin: my shop
freshwater pearl necklaces: me

Hope you are having a great Holiday week!
Come see me again next week for more summer-y fashion inspiration! :)
